Bad finger tip pain!!

Stuff happens when you play live, If you can't hear yourself right or want to be better in the mix, you subconsciously play a lot harder than you practice.
Letting It heal without disturbing is the best remedy at this point.
Great opportunity to practice different finger permutations without index.

This started happening to me (in the last year) after a long night of playing. It felt like the bone in my finger was bruised. It took a couple weeks to go away. I think it's my age (51). I have since made a conscious effort to lighten my touch (something I probable should have done a long time ago). The last few gigs have been without pain. I guess I have to adjust as I get older.

If you typically run with high blood sugar (pre diabetes type 2) eventually you could get peripheral neuropathy. Tissue breaks down because toxins (like urea) can't be removed and cellular building blocks are absent, calcium and colligen is unused and then it gets to the nerves.
Sharp pain is a warning one notices.

Other than a no sugar diet over time with protein and plant fiber to slow down sugar absorption, antioxidants help, Vit. C with bioflavonoids, possibly alpha lipoic acid supplement. Modern Americans don't get enough Vit K2 either, and that's essential for tissue rebuilding. Unfortunately not all doctors know the nutritional recovery side (some do) but they all know about the results of high blood sugar and the American starvation diet over time. (You get fat but are starving of nutrients)

Hopefully one day off cures it, but if it goes on this is something to consider. The best vitamin C is liposomal, attached to a fat molecule so it is absorbed better. You need vit C to build tissues.

I had a similar sounding pain after vigorously tapping (and nearly never doing that...) with my finger tips. It hurt like something was wrong, but only lasted a couple of days. Legal disclaimer: if you are worried, or if it feels more serious, you should see a doctor!

Do you have a wife (or mother)? Go rummaging thru their medicine cabinet. But first take a moment to marvel at the collection of "stuff" they have that would leave any CVS pharmacy green with envy. (Hey, stop laughing. You paid for all that "stuff"). OK.... Now grab the Aleve "TOPICAL" (yep, there is such a thing) and use as directed. About then, the wife will come around the corner and ask *** you're doing in her stuff and chase you off.
