Bad luck in the classifieds....again

Sadly a lot of stuff falls under " buyer beware " .. ! And we all have our on definition of what is " mint " .. I sell items with no returns , if you have questions ,... ask . And there can be several reasons why a dirt pedal might be noisier in 1 setup than another ... if someone doesn't like my item , then they can resell it themselves ..!! I'm not a music store . I do my best to describe any item .

I have never had any problems here on TB .. very few issues on Ebay over a dozen+ years. I bought a few things that sucked, but I resold them, as I figured I didn't do enough research .

Sounds like there was some miscommunication of expectations perhaps. It's easy as a consumer to get heightened quickly. When buying used you don't always think of the seller as a person with things going on in their lives. When selling gear you don't know who the buyer is or how sensitive they may be due to bad experiences in the past.

Very. Sensitive.

But I bet it will work itself out quickly at this point.

Thoughts?

If this is all true (and I have no reason to doubt) then I hope you and Mr Buyer sort it out post haste. Be a little patient with him, he was burned quite bad recently according to another thread.

Perhaps you could have said "Hey no problems, but I'm going to work now I'll be in touch," which woulda avoided it, but hey it can all be fixed now I'm sure.

The quoted timelines sound roughly accurate, however seller described his intentions, however does not communicate his intentions to buyer. He leaves buyer hanging in the middle of the conversation after dropping the little bomb "I see nothing wrong".

Yeah, as I said above, a simple addition to the message could have kept Mr 4stringuntiligeta5string calm, and avoided his (panicked?) paypal claim. Can't say I blame him for that reaction.

Geez, how about letting things resolve before spouting off. Maybe there should a TB rule that any threads about customer service (from a TB classified or commercial entity) can't be started while the dispute is in progress.

I second this.

I've done a deal with this seller before and it was smooth as butter. Just a lack of communication I think. I guess it's understandable for the OP to be sketched out if he was previously burned but I think all the positive feedback would help ease the worry.
No? Idk, I just had a scorpion bowl.

It was a distortion pedal, and it was way overboard noisy, unless I turned my highs and mids all the way down. I've used hi gain pedals before, but this was unmanageable.

This comment makes me think...is it the seller's fault you don't like the characteristics of this pedal? If it truly was in mint condition and everything functioned as it should (i am speculating), you shouldn't blame the seller. My .02 of course.

For the record, I look at TB classifieds first when shopping, as this community looks out for each other!

Good Luck, and I hope it all works out.

and now we know the rest of the story. I am for negative feedback on the buyer. As both a seller and a buyer from classifieds, I value the feedback on both sellers and buyers. Sometimes things don't work out, sometimes people forget to treat others as they would want to be treated. That is a shame.

Now I wasn't going to go into detail, and naturally you leave out some detail and spin dictor it. This isn't the place for that.

What details did I leave out?

Are his timelines correct?

Absolutely

The quoted timelines sound roughly accurate, however seller described his intentions, however does not communicate his intentions to buyer. He leaves buyer hanging in the middle of the conversation after dropping the little bomb "I see nothing wrong".

When you initially PM'd me saying the pedal was noisy I said that I would give you a refund once the pedal was back in my possession. I'm sorry that I didn't tell you that I was going to work at 7:30am, I guess I didn't really think I had to.

I was also waiting for a response from you about how the pedal works perfectly fine using all of my stuff.

I was working in a construction site today. No power, no HVAC, no network, no computers, nothing. I wasn't exactly in the position to be using a computer.

I was being patient. Mr. Buyer was the one showing a lack of it. In the PP dispute it says that I stopped responding to him. I really don't think a lack of response for less than 2 hours constitutes opening a dispute. I guess in this day and age it's expected that you're supposed to respond to messages and give refunds via PP mobile app while driving?

You are right, I could have said something. I was in a rush to get out the door.

This comment makes me think...is it the seller's fault you don't like the characteristics of this pedal? If it truly was in mint condition and everything functioned as it should (i am speculating), you shouldn't blame the seller. My .02 of course.

That's my thought as well. The buyer just didn't like the pedal and wanted a refund, so rather than give me a little time to do that he jumped right to PP dispute instead.

It functions as it should and can be proved. I own two of these pedals and they both perform the same way, neither of which are noisy.

Ok, things are resolved. PayPal has found in my favor, so my "spouting off" stands.

Uh, they found in your favor because I agreed to give you a refund and okay'd it with them.

What kind of power supply were you using? Was it a germanium distortion? How clean is the power at your home? These things can make a quiet, fully functional pedal noisy.
It is a Brimstone crossover distortion. I tried more than one power setup. First I plugged into a Furman power conditioner (glorified power strip), then a different power strip, and then directly into an ac outlet. I don't know if it's germanium based or not. I Have other dirt boxes, among other gear and I have zero issues with any of it.

Now I wasn't going to go into detail, and naturally you leave out some detail and spin dictor it. This isn't the place for that.
it IS the place for it, you aired dirty laundry in public, and created this public thread.
There are 2 sides to the story. If you wanted to keep it private, without rebuttal, you should have done so.

The quoted timelines sound roughly accurate, however seller described his intentions, however does not communicate his intentions to buyer. He leaves buyer hanging in the middle of the conversation after dropping the little bomb "I see nothing wrong".
SELLER WAS DRIVING TO WORK, it takes longer than 2 hours for co-workers or PROFESSIONAL vendors more than 2 hours to respond.
PayPal found in your favor refund granted right?
so what was the purpose of this thread:
public shaming? SUCCESS!
Refund?! success!
looking like: a buyer that is unreasonable to deal with? SUCCESS!

It was not my intent to detail things and cast a public light on the seller, however he made that happen himself. My only purpose was to simply rant here in general.

That being said, PayPal also knows there are two sides to a story, and mine happened to be the one they supported.
