Bad Newz Nurshreez

Don't bother. First instance (under a different spelling) was actually a global warming thread. It surprised me, too.

What the hell was I smoking that day?

no, no, no. the origin of baby fighting is within a vick thread. the global warming thread just happened to be made on that same fateful day.

Good Lord, I just got owned. I'll blame the alcohol.

This is the beginning of the end! Once the big name sponsors get involved they will run this sport into the ground. :rollno:

While I'm grateful for anything that brings exposure to our sport, I am fearful of the rumor that Stewart and his Hollywood pals have plans for a heavily marketed league. Which means that either they'll be looking to buy out the best fighters from the existing federations that have worked hard to develop talent or they'll simply make due with lesser fighters and overhyping a substandard product.

Either way, it's a developing situation that bears watching. I'll let you know what my sources tell me.

Its because people like Stewart have all the money...;)

Anyways, we could always try to get our BFO (Baby Fighting Organization) off the ground before Stewart and hire the big names ourselves. If we all pitch in a little we can go a long way. Worst comes to worst we can train some assassins.

I'll echo this concern. Stewart's decision to make this public means they are further along than I was led to believe. In all likelihood, any product he puts out will be gobbled up and viewed as "the standard" by the expected influx of new viewers.

That kind of power to influence a sport on the cusp of maturation could set us back decades if done wrong. Realistically, he's not a real fan and is only in it for the money. A business plan like that will probably cast the sport as a slight freakshow in order to get the numbers up (much like the XFL). I don't know about the rest of you, but I have too much love and respect for our sport to let Stewart and his gang come in a disrespect it for a few bucks.

As a result, I've taken to drafting up a few propositions to get our league up and running quickly. The only way to do this is to take a few drastic steps and I hope you guys forgive me if they seem too far out there.

In the past, I've not hidden my distaste for the "baby vs. animal" bouts that the Appalachian District uses as its financial backbone. Well, I've been giving it some thought. I know it may be gimmicky, but it might be the springboard of exposure we need to get a jump on the Hollywood Crew.

A few of you might have seen my now closed thread on Louisiana's outlawing of cockfighting. Well, having glanced over the actual Bill, I think we might be able to stage a "baby vs. rooster" bout without legal repercussions. I know, I know, most of our better fighters would trounce a fighting bird in a matter of seconds, but we could make it more even by strapping gaffs to the rooster.

There is a large cockfighting stadium in Lafayette that has sat dormant for a few months. We could fill it to capacity for an entire weekend with a series of bouts beginning on aThursday Night. This a largely untapped market and these people are dying to get back into a bloodsport.

My second proposal is similar, but carries a lot more historical significance. I've been in contact with the presiding body of Australian Extreme Youth Combat. They are VERY interested in being part of our launch and Sydney would be the perfect location for our proposed Main Event: BABY vs DINGO.

I cannot stress how badly the people of Oz would like to show those dingos up after that last tragedy. I'm in negotiations with (obviously) Outback Steakhouse. Right now, they will only sign on to a three event contract and one of them must include crocodiles. Well, as a Steve Irwin fan, I have my limits of taste and cannot commit to fighting an animal Mr. Irwin dedicated his life to promoting the understanding of. I'm still looking for a way around this.

I'll keep you informed.

Mike

I cannot support any league that allows baby vs. animal fights. My organization takes a significant amount of pride in knowing that we don't stoop to the level of those trainers in the Appalachian League.

I think our money would be better invested in trying to strike a deal with the major television networks. Perhaps an exhibition on NBC primetime would be a better course of action? Failing that, I'm not opposed to placing some corporate logos around the ring to garner some extra funds and exposure.
