Badtz-Maru Bronco , what's the deal ?

Currently on Ebay UK there is a Squier Bronco Badtz-Maru Bronco bass, appears to be stock, almost up to £200 plus £25 postage.
Are these just a regular bronco with a fancy pickguard or are they something special , limited numbers etc.
Only reason I ask is , very recently I listed an absolutely mint condition Torino red bronco , with Seymour Duncan hotrails pickup, 4 saddle bridge, Alpha pots on eBay and it sold for £150.
The upgrades surely made it more desirable, at least I thought so .

It's a special edition with a novelty pickguard. They were produced for a limited time in late 2000s, which makes them somewhat rare. Still a relative steal compared to what the Squier Hello Kitty Stratocaster goes for these days.

The Badtz-Maru is somewhat different: the body is basswood instead of agathis, the pots are 500k vs the usual 250k, the neck on mine is a bit chunkier than the usual bronco necks. Overall the workmanship appears to be a bit better.
