Did two gigs this weekend. Last night was my first time with the Baer ML112 and my dance/cover/top40 band. We played at a place that has a house backline amp; Ampeg SVT IV head/Ampeg SVT410H Classic cab.
I don't care for the that amp or cab personally. So I took the Orange Bass Terror 500 and Baer ML112. Placed the ML112 on the floor, vertically oriented. FYI - there is FOH support with Subs and Pro JBL mains.
I got told to turn down during my first set (with Single Baer ML112/Orange BT 500) I was getting stage volume that I liked, but apparently the FOH Engineer wanted my sound coming from the mains/sub. He hobbled me to a volume where I struggled to hear myself on stage, But the monitors were crap and he couldn't give the singer any more gain on the monitors, So he suggested I turn down. Sigh. >..Then the drummer couldn't really hear me all that well ...neither could I.
Last song of the night I said to myself "F**k it". I pulled the DI Feed from my amp, turned up the Orange Bass Terror, walked half way out into the house for the last song.
Guess what? The single ML112 and my Amp sounded KILLER and would have carried the room! Granted, a lot of people had left, so maybe I would have wanted the ML112 pair (Stack). But at this club, they want ALL the control over the sound through the house system and I am not allowed to get enough punch to even deliver any punch to the dance floor in front of the stage. Oh well.
Bottom line, (lousy sound guy/house rules be damned), ...the Baer ML112 is a stunning single cab solution that give PLENTY of stage volume.
My "only" issue was not being able to hear myself at low levels with the volume of acoustic drums and electric guitarist into a 2x12 Bogner. I needed the speaker to be higher, or needed the second cab for my own local bass monitoring needs.
Then I did a small St.Patty's day show today with my Duo. Very intimate. The Baer ML112 was absolutely lovey in every way!
