I think the Fdeck HPF was originally designed for upright players, and the battery switch was placed on the output jack with the idea the HPF would mount on the bass with the lead from the pup left plugged in. Makes sense, that way, but it's opposite from what electric players are used to.

When I use my HPF I put it between my electric bass and the amp input, sitting on top of the amp, so I had to learn about unplugging the patch cord from the HPF to the amp, too!

The Valkyrie has a built in HPF, although it works a bit different than something like the Fdeck. Also, don't forget that the Valkyrie has the DEEP control centered at 45Hz, so turning that down really helps cut out the ultra low frequencies. Rolling off the DEEP and boosting the BASS control (80Hz) still leaves you with a plenty fat low end and takes a load off your drivers.

We use an optical compression circuit to keep the solid state preamp out of harsh clipping.

That's awesome, I always forget about the DEEP knob. My old DB680 had a deep switch I liked, but it didn't have a [minus] setting, just flat, + and ++.

Is the 3012 in the ML112 high passed at the crossover at all? I guess my question is whether I even need to worry about trying to wring max volume and protect speakers if I'm using a Valkyrie and pair of ML112's...

edit: More specifically, if I were to buy an HPF to fix my current rig would it bring any tangible benefit to the planned new rig?

Had a show last night at one of our regular monthly residencies. Really tight space and despite some recent experimentation decided I would use the ML112. The crowd was rockin', bass sounds great on the recording (despite being set up behind the band), and more important, in the moment I was thrilled with my tone and feel.

There are some other great cabs out there, but frankly the ML112 is "it" for me. I'm back to my regular routine of one in the car for all gigs, and bringing the second for larger/louder situations. I'm still keeping one Berg around for now for those gigs where I absolutely have to have a micro setup, but there is no substitute for armadillos.

I am finding the same to be true. I did a Blues band gig last night and brought my 4x10 Berg. But after doing the Gig, I am gonna bring the single Baer ML112 next week and see how it goes. I expect its gonna be great!
