Baer Amplification Megathread!

Some Baer fun this morning! I've tried a lot of amps through my baers and after some testing this morning I have come to the realization how important the baers are to creating and sculpting my tone. They seem to be my foundation. Put it this way, I could be happy using any of the amps shown and some of the recent ones I have tried but not sure I'd feel the same if I switched the cabs out. Thanks Roger for creating a product that keeps me inspired!

Love it! I have two series 2 and 1 series 1. The Demeter is a pretty bright amp set flat and the series 2 cabs sound a little less mid forward and a little smoother which to my ear sounds a bit darker, so they pair up really well. I still like the Demeter through the series 1, but prefer it with the series 2. That said, I prefer the puma 900 through the series 1. You can, of course, tweak some knobs and get the two sounding almost the same.

I should also note that I pushed the baers harder than ever in my test and they didn't flinch. Of course I was smart about it, but volume up on the tc and the puma near 80 percent and no farting at all. Digging in and slapping hard too!! Very impressive! That tc head is loud and very impressive through both series 1 and 2 ml cabs.

I guess I really need to try that new Baer amp and see if I can go all Baer.

Okay, just had a very quick look at the facebook page. Saw this:


There are several knobs and switches, so, obviously, it must sound good.

Seriously, there are more knobs and switches than I'm used to seeing on a D.I. A quick rundown, please?

And, though it might be obvious to others, how about a quick rundown of what we have back here?

Knobs - left to right:
GAIN - 12AU7, class A gain stage.
DRIVE - Controls a second tube driven, transformer coupled push/pull amplifier stage.
DI LEVEL - Level control for the rear XLR output jack
CHARACTER - A variable combination -6dB high/low pass filter. Only active with CHARACTER switch in the on position

Switches - left to right:
IMPEDANCE - Switches the input impedance between 750kΩ and 5MΩ
POLARITY - Reverses XLR polarity
GROUND - Switches between grounded and ground lift
CHARACTER - Engages a slight low end phattening circuit and activates the CHARACTER knob

Rear Panel - left to right:
Thru 1/4" jack- Pre DRIVE and CHARACTER sections (pass thru to amp intput
Post out 1/4" jack - Post DRIVE and CHARACTER sections
XLR out jack - Post DRIVE and CHARACTER sections
115v/230 voltage select switch
Off/On switch and fuse holder entry module

I'd imagine it'd sound like your Valkyrie. How different are the tube gain and tube drive stages vs. the Valk?

I'm pumped for this! I'm starting to get more studio work and I've been looking at getting a nice tube DI box as hauling the Valkyrie around for those is kind of overkill. Guess I don't have to worry about which one to get. :)

The Valkyrie is all solid state preamp. The the tube section, when engaged, comes after the preamp. The VTI is a class A tube preamp, followed by an additional tube gain stage, so both tubes and the transformer are in the circuit at all times. It's a completely different tube circuit than what is in the Valkyrie. The Valkyrie's tube section was really designed to add tube harmonics to a solid state signal, while the VTI was designed more to help you capture some of that vintage tube amp tone in the studio with only a direct box.

Price won't be set yet until we get closer to production, but we should have the price set by NAMM. Probably somewhere in the U5 to REDDI range.
