One thing to consider also is which head you are using with the S15D. I wasnt impressed with it when I used Focus SA / sabddi with it. However, my Carvin b800 is deep and flat by nature so when mated with the S15D it really brings out the lows that might be missing with another head.

I think it should be also said that those ultra-lows, while they sound nice in your bedroom, dont do well in a live band mix. Those ultra-lows can just turn into rumble and smudge. Personally, I prefer a tight low-end.

Being an Alembic guy- the Bag End connection has always been enticing- I'll have a run at one in July/August.

If you dont mind the extra weight go for the coax. you can always turn the tweeter down.

personally, i dont much like tweeters/ highs in my tone. I like a bluesy tone thing. that is not to say the non-coax doesnt have highs... it does. the coax is a fair amount more expensive too. if i were to go back in time i would still have bought the non-coax version given that I dont like highs and extra price. /weight.

I'm not a fan of tweeters in general, and the non-coax version has plenty of highs (really very surprising for a 15", you have to hear it to believe it), so unless you're really looking for some sizzle I would say the non-coax is the way to go if you want one to start with.

ok, so i've been away from the internet, so sue me............

anyhow, i'm not affiliated with bag end at all.

and, i can tell you that i don't think that their cabs are "the best" there are tons of great cabs out there, many with more modern design

james hart hit the nail on the head about the big S15B cab having the lows that the S15 (and almost all other cabs) lack. but it is huge. as far as i know it is a replica of the 30 (yes 30!) cabs used by phil lesh in the wall of sound circa 1975.

JH also summed it up pretty well that while the S15 does not have huge lows (their specs indicate that fairly well BTW, and FWIW, ALL cabs measure their sensitivity @ 1K), it does have a great tone.

I have two and two S12 cabs. no coax, but i would like one someday. For most gigs one S15 does very well, but i prefer the tone of the S15 and S12 together.

IF you want a box that size with more lows (but you will give up some midrange) the aguilar GS112 is a great box. I miss mine.

Correct... no adjustment. I do that at my bass anyway. Passive bass users can do it at their amp.

It's actually a very smooth tweeter IMO. I like it. I can still dial in over the top highs, it just doesn't start out that way.

Try fullcompass $371 New and if you order by 1-800 you get a further discount. It takes about a week longer as it is a special order, when I received mine the factrory sealed box was packed in another box with lots of packing between the boxes.

Bag End customer service is the best I have ever seen.

The ultra-techies of our crowd have a dozen reasons why the Bag End S15-D shouldn't be considered. The rest of us who don't care so much about the S15-D's technical inadequacies, and who play S15-Ds, will tell you that the tone from this cab is addicting. It simply sounds great, either at home or on the gig.

I played mine live last night, room of 250, driven by a Neo-Pak 3.5. There was a sweet spot of volume, not really extremely loud, but FULL. It was about 10:00 on the 3.5's master. When I turned up to that point, the setup just sang. Very rich, full and musical. Note: The S15-D combines very well with the GB Neo-Pak!

Live, I don't miss the ultra-ultra-deep lows. At all. I just want that tone!

IMHO, Bag End was not trying to push the state of the art of cabinet engineering, nor defy the laws of physics, they just wanted to build a portable, toneful and practical cabinet for players.

I'm sold on BE. I have an S15-D which I frikkin' love and just picked up a used D-10BX-D from TB'er 4Mal which at 4ohms, I can't wait to hear with my Walter Woods or Ashdown ABM. I feel I should be covered for most all of my gigs with these 2. Now, if my back goes out, I'll still keep my Epifani UL110, but, it doesn't compare to BE IMO.

I experimented with a handful of cabs (neo etc..) and have come full-circle back to heavier, multi-ply enclosures, speakers w/magnets etc..

Much as I'd love to have saved weight, the sacrifice in tone was too great. I haven't been able to sell my Bergantino HT112 as that baby has it's own vibe workin'.
