bag end s15d

From everything I've experienced and read (I haven't owned one, but have played through a couple). They are rather efficient, like 103db 1w/1m so they get loud quick. Not to much on the low end because of the small cab size (1.8 cu ft) but is able to get good lows with a modest tweak in the eq. Great mid range presence, over-all a pretty sweet cab... I had a yearn for them not to long ago ( I still do, but am going a different way). Another plus is that they are relatively light weight (44lbs).

$300 is a good price, they tend to go for around $300 to $350 shipped on the boards.

I have no idea how it'd pair with the Kappa Pro Avatar and the SWR, my only concern would be the sensativity of the Avatar. Other then that I'm sure it'd sound great.

If you're looking for gobs of extra low end extention then I would look else where. But if you want a nice loud, punchy 15 then this might be where you want to look.

Peace

You can check out all the specs there. They have a few different 15 models that are appealing. The S15X-D has a coax in it.... the one I'm actually very interested in is the S15B-D, here are the specs.

System Type:
Full-range, front vented with
removable vent cover 5.1 cubic ft.
Impedance:
8 Ohms
Frequency Response:
40 Hz to 4 kHz ± 6 dB
(4 pi Steradians)
Sensitivity:
103 dB SPL (1W @ 1m)
Power Handling:
200 W continuous sine wave
400 W instantaneous peak

Finish:
Deep Red carpet
Dimensions:
18.5"h x 28.5"w x 24.5"d
47cm x 73cm x 63cm
Weight:
70 lbs.
32kg
Shipping Dimensions:
27" x 30" x 21"
69cm x 77cm x 54cm
Shipping Weight:
78 lbs.
35kg

It's about 25lbs heavier but it also has a little more low end extension.

As for your question about something that has similar extra low end with similar weight... I'm not for certain because I've always had relatively heavy cabs. The thing about having a a cab that is light but has a lot of low end is that it's generally not very efficient thus more wattage or more duplicats of speakers are needed to achieve a louder volume.

There are people who will tell you there are exceptions to this rule but I can't say so for myself because I've never owned or used a cab as such.

Give the bag ends a search here on the forum... there is a ton of useful info.

That 103 dB is pure horsepucky unless you assume that the frequencies of interest to bassists lie above 2 or 3 K Hz and that the proper weay to measure sensitivity is to focus on that range. Or maybe they are measuring by some other non-standard method.

So maybe the rest of the specs aren't so honest either.

What kind of music do you play? What's the band setting (how many members, what instruments ect?), What kind of a tone are you going after?

I tried checking your profile but there wasn't much info there to draw from.

I might be able to give more info if I can get some of your info.

Either way, the cab is rather efficient from my instances with it, much more responsive with less watts then many other cabs I've tried and owned. The Eden I had had an efficiency of 105db @ 1w/1m and I found that to be less accurate then the bag end as far as honest specs.

i'm in a 4 piece band, The Back Beat. it's like, a jet, oasis, beatles, classic rock sounding group. and we need to update the myspace. cos those are the old drummer and bassist. haha.

we're playing lead and rhythm guitar, two vocals (lots of beatles-esque harmonies) drums and bass.

i'm looking to just improve on my tone (it tends to be too focused on the highs and hi mids because of the 210s) and round it out with a punchy yet deep 15 that'll move a decent amount of air. make the crowd feel it AND hear it a bit more. as far as my tone, i use a boss compressor and like a lot of bass and highs, with a moderate amount of low-mid mids. i currently play with an ibanez sr400 with 2 darkstars installed.

we're playing shows with anywhere from 40-200 people, and potentially outdoors (hopefully with pa support). but i'd love to have enough to be independent of the pa.

Since you have the Avatar Kappa Pro 210 why not add the Neo B212 with the new custom Deltalite LF's in them?

Lots of low end

From Avatar site: Eminence now makes custom LF versions of their Neo deltalite2 12 inch Neo just for Avatar so our new B212 goes even lower in frequency response than the previous Neo 12's. The new custom Neo 12 LF's have a longer cone travel (Xmax) than the stock Eminence model. (just like we did with the deltalite tens for our highly rated B210/B410 models) Super Low End!

Plus it's only 56lbs

Yeah, they seem a little more sensitive than some, but I think most people are aware that there are tradeoffs of a rather petite low end that come with having more sensitivity in a given size.

The Eden I had had an efficiency of 105db @ 1w/1m and I found that to be less accurate then the bag end as far as honest specs.

For that particular piece of data anyway. Any company that gives one dishonest spec is likely to give many so you really can't form any baisis for even comparions using them. Eden has been especially bad this way, so has SWR for that matter, and Accugroove, and others to lesser extents.

The Bagend S15 is a killer cab. I spent the 90s gigging one with an S12.

As far as efficiency and specs.... an AMP BH-250 pushing about 180 watts into the 8 ohm S15 was usually enough for any club I played (North NJ & NYC). 250 watts split between an S15 & S12 was often too hot on stage for most indoor clubs.

I was playing classic & alternative rock to Hard blues. For Metal, I needed both cabs.

PMC89, you might also look at ditching that 210 KappaPro-loaded cab or replacing the drivers with the current neos. Those drivers really were unsuitable for bass guitar, should have never been used. Not much low end from them for sure.

not only is there ****** low end.... its heavy as hell.

yeah, maybe just all out sell it for wutever i can get, and replace with a 4ohm 2 12 neo from avatar.

because the kappa pro is like 70 lbs.... for nothing. while the 2 12 is only 56 and its much, much louder.

That's a good cab but of many fifteen cabs out there it's one of the less deep-sounding ones. And the clue is there visually: the front baffle isn't that much larger than the driver, and from what I recall it's not a very deep cab. This means the internal volume is not very large, which for a fairly sensitive driver means there won't be much low end.

It always depends on the style AND the other gear....

Greenboy is spot on, the S-15 isn't about HUGE bottom, it fills a room nicely though IMO/E. If you want a deep cab, the Aguilar 1x12 might be something to check out.

Here in my AMP with the S15.... bass is a stock 1991 Carvin LB75 strung with a EADGB with Ken Smith Stainless rounds (bridge pickup soloed so the shy bass is exaggerated more). Guitarist has an Acoustic 2x12" 120watt SS combo and a bunch of vintage stomp boxes... drummer on a Ludwig set... just vocals in the PA recorded with a couple SM57 in the room.

Female fronted Alt rock.... Circa 1993

+1.. That badend s15B-D is my favorite 15 cab.. way louder than anything that i have ever played.. and plenty of top for a 15.. and with the port off, it has a low extention that is smooth and deep..I played the better part of the 1982 to 1990 with a pair of them + an SVT cab with a Crown PSA2 and Alembic tube pre... It moved alot of air.. was very punchy.. after my crown was stolen i used a BGW 750 but the crown floored the BGW..
I still have one S15B-D and it is awesome with the thunderfunk head and have used it with a pair of 1x12 cabs and the GBE 1200..
I love bagend speakers..
