bag end s15d

Fred, that'd be interesting to hear about. I haven't seen anybody posting about that combination yet.
As you and I discussed off-TB, I really like the GB Neo-Pak/Bag S15 combination. Kickin'.
But I'd be way remiss if didn't mention that I LOVED the sound of both the S15s when I ran into a Yamaha PB-1 preamp, into a power amp, and then each of the Bags in turn. WOW. Very nice indeed.

Larry - hey, thanks for the kudos! I appreciate that. I went out on a limb making that post, because we do indeed have some qualified (and some not qualified) people who are not particular fans of the Bag End S15's. Some are prone to retorting to posts like mine was.
As you've discovered, as have many S15 owners, these cabs simply sound much better in person than they ought to on paper. There's a certain magic to the design.. these cabs are very musical for many bass players. Now some players will need cabs that are capable of much more extreme performance on highs, lows, mids, volume, than the Bags.. but for many, many players these cabs are probably all you will ever need.
Larry, I'm tickled to hear that you are very impressed with your S15-D.. please continue to share your impressions with us.
Also, maybe one of these days IvanMike or one of the other amp mods will weld all these separate S15 threads into a megathread. Sigh. One can only hope - or PM Paul, perhaps. An MT would be supah!!
Which is better? S15-D/S15-D stack or S15-D/S15X-D stack? I always turn off the tweeters in my cabs. I guess from all those years of using the Ampeg B15 cab. I would say that the sound I like to get is like Tommy Shannon with SRV/Double Trouble. 
Magical is a good word to describe what I hear sittin' in my apartment with either a Walter Woods or better yet my Ampeg B25B through my S15-D. To my ears, it's what bass should sound like. 90% of the music I listen to is from the 70's and older. Most of the projects I'm in are the same, old school. The tight-phat and quick attack of my S15-D just captures all that vibe. Thing is, I paid a little over $ 200 used for mine. A steal for the feeling I get from this cab.

I own 2 of these and have been using them since about 1990. There are several things I like about them. 1) very punchy and articulate for a 15" cab 2) they can be heard very well from almost any vantage point in any venue 3) honest tone...u get out what u put in 4) paired w/ my eden traveler + head the tone is like an audiophile version of a B15. 5)easy 1 handed carry
On the neg. side you can blow the speaker quickly w/ too little power....I always run my master volume at max. and use the pre-amp volume because of this. In boomy rooms I generally try to keep it out of the corner or away from the back wall because w/ the rear port It does get HUGE. I use mine for GB work and jazz gigs w/ my old Precision(flats). I do not use it for upright, I have a GK MB150 combo for that. I'd imagine the tone of the Bag End to be like the Jeff Berlin Markbass combo for comparison.

two of these for sale "used" at the Bass Emporium, if i had the cash I'd grab them as i've been very curious to try these due to the glowing reviews...
I used the S 15 D and S 15XD combination for many years with a few different heads and basses. 99% of the time I got great results..plenty of bottom end for my style of play..
great clarity and fidelity.... easy to transport and many great conversations with fellow bassists in the audience...I am still suprised that there are bass players out there who have never heard of this brand..
What suprised me the most was the projection these cabs have. I let a good friend sit in one night..I had the two Bag End cabs - a Mesa Pulse 600 and a Sadowsky J.
I was amazed at how good the speakers sounded at the other end of the room..tight - great bottom end and no harshness from the coax...
There are many great choices out there but these cabs do a great job and the customer service from Bag End is top shelf..

Sounds warm and LOUD. Really cuts through. I took my S-15 around town and used both the GB Shuttle 6.0 and LMII and I bought the LMII without a moment of hesitation. YMMV, but makes a screaming mini rig.
I used an S15-D and S15X-D with an Epifani UL-502. In order to have the speakon connections on the S15-D, I contacted Bag End for a connection plate and the service I received was very friendly. I think this combination might be one of the best 2 x 15" out there; I had great low end as well as some punch from this rig. Bag End stuff is sturdy and built like a tank; they won't fail you.
I had to sell both though as they were on the heavy side (living in Brooklyn on a third floor with steep and narror stairs) and as I am more into the sound of 12" speakers these days. Also, I did not enjoy the fact that S15X-D did not have a tweeter control.
But, if you are into 15", Bag End's are up there!

I used two S15-D's with my TA503 and R500 and it was a killer combination. The BE's really complimented the MB voicing, and the high sensitivity helped eek some more volume from the MB's.
They use a proprietary speaker from Eminence, which is probably just a bit different from one of the Eminence brand speakers.
The speakers in my S15B-D's have screw down connector tabs rather than solder tabs, which indicate a pro audio model.
The Delta Pro 15a is my guess - Even though it is listed as a 400 watt rms speaker, if you look at the cabinet design pdf, they specify that when in a ported full range box, it is displacement limited to 200 watts, which is the spec for the Bag End cabinet.
There are probably slight differences in the Delta Pro 15 and the E-15 made for Bag End, but I suspect they would sound pretty much the same in a similar cabinet.
James Hart! i know the post was from forever ago, but did you end up getting the 18" bag-end you mentioned? and if so how is it?
I've owned and used these cabs for 20+ years, and have 40 years of performance on the bottom using many different rigs. These cabs have a very dry and articulate tone w/ a tight quick response. You will hear what you put in. They pair well w/ eden amps. fyi; i'm a B15/pbass/flats tone seeker. I always liked that this cab could be heard perfectly clear from anywhere in any size club and even in outdoor venues. People will hear EXACTLY what you play even outdoors from 200' away. It projects extremely well. It's an easy carry. 1 big caveat; if you under power this cab you WILL fry the speaker instantly. You have to run your amp volume at full and use your pre-amp volume to adjust overall volume, hence the inability to overdrive it into ampeg tone territory. Clean, efficient, tight sound...but no grit.
