Bald headed men, and Self Esteem

I'm very bald. Hair started falling out very early in life.

I always kept it short once it started falling out, but only in the past couple of years did I get comfortable with buzzing the rest off. I like the look of it buzzed, and I feel better about it. Amazingly, my wife was very surprised by it, and it took her a while to warm up to buzzing it.

I'll never stop buzzing it now.

I reckon your confidence makes a huge difference, not how much hair you have.

I think both bald heads and long hair can be really sexy. Whatever you have, just carry it off and be yourself. Please don't weave or transplant.

No-one seems to have mentioned that baldness is related to the male hormone testosterone. The very essence of manliness!
On the whole I think men get a much better deal when it comes to the problems of ageing!

Personally I've always wanted to touch, not bald heads, but those with really, really short hair

Good point. Hormonal imbalances can cause hair loss in both
men and women.

Typical 'male pattern baldness', though, is an inherited
genetic trait, the altered hormonal production is genetically
programmed on the X chromosome. As a result the condition
is passed from the maternal grandfather to the mother to a
son. It appears as a regressive gene combination.

If the granfather has it on his X, it is on the mothers X and
the son has a 50% chance or better of inheriting the gene,
depending on the genetic makeup of the maternal grandmother.

If your grandfather on your mother side was not bald, there
is a good chance you wont be.

Though other diseases can manifest hair loss as a symptom,
lupus, diabetes and so forth. As can medications with strong
side effects, just to name some other causes.

And the Donald comb over is just plain stupid and vain.

Bald here - I am 38 now and have been shaving it off since 30. My hair started receeding in my 20's and I committed to shaving it off when a 'bald-spot' started to show. I did it, it's done, I wish I had done it years earlier! even in high school. As for self-esteem, I felt like hair was a crutch. It never looked the way I wanted and if it did, one gut o wind and I was running for a mirror. Is that the self-esteem that hair brings? Phooey! For me it caused more self-consciousness then provided self-esteem.

Anyway, now that I am bald I have a noticable amount more confidence in how I look and that is what people respond to - your percieved confidence. If you are comfy with who you are and how you look people pick up on that.
