BAM200 with BA110v2

My BA110v2 sounds bad above 3 on the volume. Adjusting the equalizer helps a little but it sounds like a blown speaker. I took it into an Ampeg repair shop as it was still under warranty and he said everything checks to specs. He said: The problem is the preamp is under powered and breaks up too soon for the volume I would like. I use this amp as a practice amp but would like to get a little more volume. I purchased a BAM200 and was wondering how this would do as a replacement for the amp in the BA110v2. Disassembly and wiring are not a issue for me.

I understand the speaker is not designed for 200w. I just want a little more volume without the breakup and was hoping this might do the trick. I do not play gigs just play for the fun of it. Mostly use headphones but every once in a while. . .

My point is you're probably going about this the wrong way. I'd trade the BA110 on something more robust.

Sure, that would work fine as long as you are ok with how everything fits together cosmetically.
(Assuming you are pulling out the old amp.)

Just bear in mind that you will need to pay attention to strain/stress on the speaker. Use your ears.

Like many guys here, I've used power amps with cabs that were not rated for the power the amp could put out.
Just don't turn it up that high.

I’m with SJan on that. A useless proposition that could have a very adverse effect on your combo. And as a previous owner of a BA110, I know that the speaker is designed to take what the BA110 throws at it and very little more than that. I could see it very easily blowing the speaker and you saying, “But I didn’t turn it up that much more!”

I don't want to insult your intellegence ( if I have please accept my apology) with this suggestion, but have you tried turning up the master volume up to 3/4 , then gradually increase the input gain from zero until distortion occurs.

I love the BAM 200, but I think there are just limitations to a ten inch speaker that is not part of a high end PA speaker with a sub attached. There are so many used cabs out there that would pair well with that head that would keep you in the practice amp space.
TC Electronics has a 2x8 cabinet that is pretty inexpensive and would probably work well with the BAM200. I’d suggest that option for the OP to investigate.

It only has a single volume knob, and they do distort past a certain point on the knob, depending on how hot the bass is.

Many years ago, I had two cabs with 2x15s in each that I built myself and a couple 100 watt amps. Blew quite a few speakers before that setup. So, I understand the too much power and volume=blown speakers.

I would if I could. No gain, just a volume. The Ampeg tech that looked at it said the preamp is under powered and this is what is causing the breakup. Amp gets loud, just is distorted.
