Band Drama Thread: A Poll

After reading a Band Drama post, how often do you find yourself thinking the following:

"Yes, this is clearly a reasonable person who has been put in a difficult situation and reacted to it in a way that is wholly appropriate. I am definitely being given a full and nuanced account of events that fairly represents all involved. I am sympathetic to his/her plight and do not think that he/she bears any blame for how things have turned out."

Everybody likes to gawk and judge when it's not their band. It's fun sometimes to listen to drama. TV wouldn't exist without it. Neither would most song lyrics. Somebody's gotta take the drama bullet.

OP's often admit that the post is a "rant." at least those folks are taking a stab at the appearance of 'honest'....

we are responsible for what we say and do. we are responsible for the predicaments and situations in which we find ourselves. in band drama scenarios = we might be a part of some solution, but we are always a part of the problem, by dint of being a member of 'that band'. it is impossible to post a band drama thread seeking support (or advice and counsel) and to be objective at the same time! rants/complaints can never be untainted by subjective goals/wishes/delusions.

if you don't want to read a thread, don't.....besides, what is "drama" (eg, inflated or overstated issue raised to cause discord or get attention by someone) to one person is a very very important and fundamental band issue to another. I don't judge in that way or write someone's concern off as merely being "drama". I read them. Sometimes they are worth commenting, sometimes not. *shrugs*

Any time I hear the word drama I immediately assume the person posting about it is the one who is creating it. I have come to the belief also that 90% of the time that assumption is correct .

I'll add by saying that I don't consider myself immune to that, either.

Surely all stories lack the other side's view, but that just make them all the more interesting because of the missing pieces. It is SO rare to see stories where the OP cast themselves in a dark light.

I generally get the impression that by the time a poster has finished their band drama thread, they've already realised the problems, and are just looking for validation for whatever they've decided to do.

Either that, or it's late at night, they're just home from a lousy rehearsal/show, they're tired, hungry, drunk and their partner has no interest in listening to them bitching.

I read them. Once in a while I even comment on them. Most of them seem to involve being angry that life is not conforming to their desires. I like to think that eventually they'll figure out that this is not a sustainable position. As one of those old guys used to say, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans." (PS: The line did not originate with John Lennon. Yet another example of how reality disappoints...)

I love reading band drama stories, if only because they make me appreciate my band so much. We are a no-drama band.
