For his "All This Time" DVD, Sting played his P-bass on some of the songs while Christian McBride played upright. It actually worked pretty well, IMHO.

No, it's a 2 string bassitar, a 3 string bassitar and a no string drum kit.

Actually, they use a 2-string "basitar" and 3-string "guitbass". If you count the snares on the drummer's snare drum, that could increase the string count a great deal.

Would be pretty cool to listen to yeah. But not to play in. I'm in the school band, there are 2 bassists, me and this other guy. The other guy sucks ass. So when he makes mistakes (happens quite regulary) people must think it's me. Better with just 1 IMO. He always loses his music aswell, which enrages me!
