Bands you don't particularily like

Doors - My old mates from my college band used to say I didn't like them because they didn't have a bass player. I responded that, not being a fan of the group, I didn't even know that till you told me! :-)

More contemporary:

John Mayer - A like a few of his songs, and know that he's a fine player, but like Hendrix, it just doesn't grab me.

Lol on james blunt. the way "yer beautiful" makes it sound like he's a broken tape machine.:p

Billy Joel. I know he is universally loved and I don't think anyone here has mentioned him. He is a great musician but I guess I find his songs to be too corny. I do sort of like "Root Beer Rag" but that's an instrumental.

Honorable mention goes to Phil Collins and AC/DC.

even though i like a lot of bruce's earlier music, i'm still disgusted by the fact that he goes on entire tours in support of politicians. that's not what rock and roll is supposed to be about.

LOL that's awesome. I, like many people who have graduated high school, prefer my ac/dc in small doses. however, I remain a fan. their music can be refreshing and invigorating, like a shot of wild turkey 101 or winning a game of russian roulette.

the two big classic groups that I dislike are the Doors and Pink Floyd.

You like AC/DC but not Pink Floyd or the Doors? I saw AC/DC play with Bonn Scott when I was about 14 or 15 (before you were born), and they were a great band in those days - Bonn Scott was a great front man and a fantastic entertainer.

After he died, they released a couple of decent albums, but then they just kept releasing the same album over and over again, never straying from the same boring formula. They never do anything different- and Angus Young still wearing the school uniform with his receding hairline - he looks like a complete knob. They're still a pub band to me, and not a very good one.

Still, each to their own, but there's no "small doses" of them in Australia - they're played to death on every rock station in the country, there songs are played by nearly every cover band around, so perhaps that distorts my view somewhat.

there's a few bands/artists that are hard to appreciate outside of their historical context. If you listen to the pixies now, it's a little hard to understand what the big deal was since a hundred bands have copied their sound since then. Same with jimi hendrix's guitar playing.
I think Hendrix was a great guitarist and songwriter but I hate the way his recordings sound, and I can't really get past that to enjoy his music like I wish I could.

I copy that. I hate being told I am wrong because I do not think their songs are that great. How can I be wrong if I do not like something. I think people like the Beatles because they think they must.

I think it's a shame there's so few live recordings of The Beatles (because of all those screaming halfwit girls). I think they'd probably be more respected if there was a lot of good live footage around (like The Who). Just a thought, but they were (by all reports) an outstanding live band.

Having said that, it's a pity that there's too much live Hendrix stuff which is utter crap, as he's stoned off his gourd. With a few exceptions, most of his live stuff just wasn't very good. He did himself a disservice with some of those concerts, but then I guess if he'd lived longer, he would've cleaned up his act, and we would have seen the best of him.

Funny how easily we all jump to this question. I can't resist it either:
- Guns & Roses. Can't stand Axel's voice, or the cheap "glam-rock-don't-want-be-labeled-as-glam-rock" songs.
- Folk rock in general. I respect Dylan, but can't stand the music.
- Yell/death/aaghgrhgrhg metal.

Axel Rose has one of the worst voices I've ever heard anywhere. When one of their songs come on, I have to turn off the radio fast or my eardrums start to bleed - I've been hospitalized twice for it already.

They say it's quite common, especially when he does that horrible version of "Knocking On Heaven's Daaa-oo-waaar". They call it "Axel Offensive Ear Syndrome" here, and doctors have lobbied the Government for radio stations to issue a warning before playing their songs.

They recently outlawed playing America's "Horse With No Name" after midnight, as it caused too many people to fall asleep whilst driving. The courts deemed it the most boring FM radio track every written. I concur.

I can't say I hate any particular artist. Every band listed I can think of at least one song I enjoy. Maybe I'm too simplistic. I like a catchy hook. I like pop, rock, metal, some country (and western), jazz.
Having said that, I'm not sure I've ever heard a "dub step" song so I'm with holding judgement. I'm also yet to hear a "cookie monster" thrash song I like. however, I don't know anyone who listens to it either.
I do know you can hear those bands inside your rehearsal room...in the next county! Come on fellas. Does it really have to be THAT loud?

Pretty much anything that is labeled "party rock" and hair bands from the later 80's and so many other bands that I'd rather not list, there's just that many bands/"artists" I can live without that the list will be endless. I'm not the "It's all good" type of person because so much is all wrong.
