Judging by the fact that they collaborated with COG on this and the COG 66 (Knightfall & Mini) uses a filtered clean blend, I'd guess that was the origination.

Hmmm. That looks very cool. I almost always run my Fuzz(s) with both a parallel clean and distortion already. I was starting to wonder if that is too busy a signal chain. Maybe I was on to something awesome and just didn't know it.
