Basement flooded :(

We had some pretty crazy levels of rain last night, and I woke up at 4am to hear my wife yelling at one of the dogs to quit barking. Shortly after that, she started screaming for everyone to wake up.

Came out, found at least 6" of water in lower level of our house. I saw basement, but it's really a split-level, so it's all living space that's ruined. Two of the kids bedrooms, family room, my music room... Didn't think I was gonna start the day by dumping water out of a 70 year old Gibson ES-175.

I think all the instruments are gonna be OK, but all my pedals and amps are probably toast. As luck would have it, my Warwick was upstairs in our bedroom.

There is still a crazy amount of standing water in the yard, so I can't even really start pumping it yet. In light of what's going on in the world right now, I suppose I'm thankful that it's just stuff that got ruined, as there are always people dealing with something worse.

Oh man, sorry to hear that.:( I hope everything is able to be cleaned up soon.

I hated to click the "like" for your thread. There's nothing to like. My God! So very sorry for your water mess, damage, money out for replacements. Great attitude though!

I live in Cbus and not too far from you. Our backyard looks like a Louisiana swamp field. No water in the basement but the rain last night kept me awake with worry.

So sorry for your "not now" problem with flooding!

Insurance is gonna cover up to $5k. Thank god my Rumble 60 was on top of the speaker cabinet (ruined) I built last summer, because there’s no way in hell I’m gonna be able to replace trashed gear right now.

One of the neighbor kids came by to see if my kids wanted to go outside. My son said “I can’t. My house is flooded” (I laughed). Five minutes later, the kid came back with a submersible pump asking if we needed to borrow it. Stuff like that makes it pretty easy to stay positive.

Wow. Terrible thing to happen! I wish you good fortune with it - and hope you can find lots of fans to get air moving and dry things.

A thought - when our basement got soaked, we moved out all the furniture into the garage, yanked the carpet and pad and toted them out of the house. Turned out that we got a $1300 credit from our insurance for having done that work and them not having to pay a crew to do it. As a bonus, getting the carpet and pad out immediately helped dry out the basement much faster.

We found the water about 7 PM and had the carpet in the front yard by midnight.

It’s the worst. We just finished redoing our basement from getting water last fall. There is a lot of water in the ground and snow on top. We have a good chance of more water this spring. Just one more thing to add to the feeling of doom right now.
