Bass Amp Sound/Tone Questions

Howdy. I have never owned a bass amp or played a bass through an amp before, so bear with me if this is stupid.

I am planning on ordering an Acoustic-brand bass amp and I'm wondering if I can get the following sounds out of the amp itself without any effects or pedals or any foreign accessory to the amp itself. The amp's controls are pictured here:

The sounds I want are the two different sounds, the first sounding like nothing I can describe, and the second one can be described as "sounding crisp, and like a piano". They are here:


There's probably nothing special at all about the sound/tone of that to the average or pro bass players on the forum, but someone new to the bass like me wouldn't know if they're assisted via effects or pedals or what, and I'd hope that they can be made just via the controls on the amplifier itself. Can they? Like I said, I've never owned a bass amp, just a crappy little 8 inch *guitar* amp with three knobs that I played my bass through.

And another question if anyone is up for it: Does anyone know which control knobs on my soon-to-be-ordered Acoustic amplifier would have to be turned where, in order to replicate either of those sounds/tones?

First, I'm not an expert on effects. I have several pedals but have found that I really don't need them very often so I normally only keep my Morley dual wah pedal connected.

Having said that, the first sound sounds like it has a bit of flange or maybe some chorus in it and the second one sounds like it is probably just a clean signal with no effects.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Acoustic amp and, of course, the sound you get also depends on what bass and cabinet you are using. It can make a huge difference in the sound if you change any of those variables.

The pianolike sound is achieved by using bright roundwound strings. Ricks are very good at this too. Amp shouldn't matter much, perhaps add some treble.

+1 Both of those clips seem to be some sort of roundwound string played with a pick on a relatively brightly voiced bass (maple board). Not a lot of 'tweeter sizzle', so a good full range amp (with or without tweeter) with that sort of 'bass/string/pick' combination should work (no effects needed IMO).

The new Acoustic amps sound very good, and are very good 'value for the money' amps. A little boost of the upper mids and deep low end and a slight roll-off of upper treble, and a P Bass or J with a maple board and roundwounds or very bright flats, and the OP should be good to go!
