BASS BOMBS...

i was just wondering is this ONLY a studio affect or can you get pedals which do this big bass noice

its onyl happens for about
5-10 seconds its like a big booom!
if you dont no what i mean right back and ill show you on msn with a audio clip!

anyways is there a such pedal which can do this get back to me!

i've seen this done live many times with an electronic pad used by a drummer.

Stuck In Kaos when I played with them had Mikey the noise guy doing this triggered. Some drummers use a trigger pad.

They used it live as well as the studio.

Can you be more specific? I want to hear what you're talking about, but don't have the time or the patience to listen to half an hours worth of this testosterone laden "music" then try to guess which 3 second grab you are referring too.

Give us a link to a specific song and a time mark so we're not guessing.

I just listened to one song, well, half of it, and I couldn't hear anything like what is being described above.

I make a point of not listening to Korn, rap, metal or "rap metal" (apparently!) and hence what you think it's patently obvious is totally obscure to me and many others.

I hear something in my head, and the OP hears something in his head, but are they the same thing? No amount of describing it is going to help.

i asked about if there was an effect that can do this a long time ago, apparently the only way to achieve this is through some sort of digital percussion.

those are some guys that we used to play with a lot until they broke up. i think their drummer is still trying to sell his equipment to do that. he had a separate PA with a sub and then some kind of sample pad. i never looked at the stuff real close but it sounded amazing.

Correct, originally, although nowadays nearly every softsynth has replications and variations of that sound.

If it is an 808, is there a similar electronic pad or "groovebox" that could achieve this sound without paying $800us plus?

I've been really after this sound for a while for our live shows in clubs and such but we've been hard pressed to find anything decent.

theres one bass bomb thing at listen from about 40 secs in and it hits about 47 seconds
another one again start listning at about 1.40 and it hits about 1.46 i think

Yeah, in both of those videos it's the classic detuned 808 kick/tom sound. I'm a bit out of touch with the more recent crop of groove boxes and pads, but during the 90's and as recently as a few years ago nearly every groove box at every price point had that sound, and a zillion variations. I had a Boss and a Yamaha sampler-grooveboxes (each cost me in the neighborhood of $300 some years back) and it took me like an hour to delete most of the boom variations on them to free up memory for other sounds. Check out any Boss groove boxes you may find, I would be surprised if it wasn't in there.

Its called a sub bass kick, basically a downward falling sine wave. It is mainly used in "electronica", drum n bass wouldn't be anything without it. There are many ways to produce this live.

1. By an analog drum synth, and have some sort of trigger to get it going. If you do a search for tama analog drum synth here you will see the unit that I used to use.

2. Any decent drum machine or groove machine will have some sub bass sounds.

4. Buy a 808.

5. get some sort of looper and load a sub bass kick into it, hell I will make one for you.

My tracks are all about sub bass, but I make mine with analog synths, or misused electronic devices.

I did it by kicking on a feedback loop that had a DOD Meatbox and Ashdown Env Filter (set to down) in it. It was more of a fast descending kicks (tr909 more than 808), but if you bring in the feedback slower it would do the slower descent characteristic of 808 kicks.

For somthing like that, I'd use my RC20 looper to sample it. Now that I think of it, I SHOULD load-up an explosion onto my 'one-shot channel' #10 on that old thing!
