bass cab horn question

Firstly,
let me say i know nothing about bass gear. with that said let me begin. Recently a friend of mine purchsed a legion sound 8x10 bass cab. he got it fo around 75 bucks so i knew there had to be something wrong. Well it doesn't work, thats what was wrong. the entire back input panel was destroyed, so i bought a new one, and when i was attempting to put it on i discovered a wire was disconnected from what appeared to be a capasitor. Let me again say i know nothing about bass gear, i figured it would be like a guitar cab, and ive never came across a capasitor in a guitar cab. after doing a little research i found out it was part of the horn circuitry and whatnot. anyways my questions are. would a dissconnection at the capasitor cause the whole cab to not produce sound? Would this be an easy fix, and where could i get the parts? lastly, if its a hard this for an inexperienced person as myself to tackle could i wire the cab to work excluding the horn?

You can wire the cab to work without the horn. That capacitor is very important to the the horn tweeter so if it's not working properly it is a good idea to leave it disconnected. The other speakers should work just fine without the cap and horn connected so if they aren't you have other issues. Can you post a picture of the cabinet?

We didnt get to practice today, some stuff came up but i got the bass player to take me some pics anyways. I didnt want him to take the cab apart because i wouldn't trust that guy with an anvil. but here are the pics he took. like i said the old input plate in destroyed. in my first post i forgot to mention this but, when we first plugged the cab the first time we had sound for about 5 seconds then nothing, so i figured all the rumbling jarred something loose, but im not too sure. anyways here are the pics.

From what I can see it looks like your tweeter is disconnected. That's where the capacitor leads. You could connect it back to the bare wire that you circled in the pics. If the cap and tweeter are still good then the tweeter will work. None of this explains why the rest of your speakers aren't working. You will need to pull the speakers out and check the connections there. Maybe you will get lucky and find some loose connections on that end.

ill try my best to get over to the practice place sometime this week and take the whole thing apart, i plan on replacing the back input panel and if that doesnt work and i dont find any obvious answers, like disconnected wires and such, then ill take a couple more pics and post them.

I had a day off from work yesterday so i figured i'd run to the practice pad and try and fix the problem/take pictures to see if anyone on here knows how to fix the problem. Well when i tried to open it up i found much more than what i bargained for. Firstly, there was no easy access to the speakers, the only access i had was through all the handle holes, but anyways after i opened it up i find out that the wood is molded in spots. The speakers are not the stock speakers the cab came with, actually an upgrade. so i know the guy who had it before me changed them out. I did fnd a dissconnection with a lowest left hand speaker i plugged it back up but still no sound. I am not sure about the wiring for a 8x10 cab but the wiring on this cab was wired with 4 speakers on top together and the 4 speakers on the botom together. the speakers were all 8 ohm speakers. im not sure what kind of impedance that with would give me, wired in this configuration. the head we are using is a swr working mans 2004 160 watts and 8 ohms 200 at 4. I took a boat load of pictures but my internet is off at the house because of the crazy thurderstorms ky had yesterday, so hopefully i can upload them tonight. so basically what i want to know is what else other than poor wiring could make this cab work for about 5 seconds then not work at all?

Sounds like you have a bad connection (no kidding huh?) You should probably pull each and every speaker out one at a time and check if they are wired solidly and how they are wired (series, parallel) since you said someone upgraded these. They may have improperly wired this thing or half-way wound wires around the speaker terminals. Also testing each speaker individually with a stereo or something will help to determine each speakers fitness. These cabs are designed where you have to pull the speaker to really get any work done...
