Bass Choice

I am looking for a simple passive used or new bass that I can put flatwounds on, that will give me a strong, but mellow enough to be used on more mellow, laid back, altar call type songs. Any suggestions or direction?

In that range, Squire VM Jazz is a great choice. Light, excellent build quality, good looks, sounds great...overall a real players instrument. I got a chance to play one at my local GC and liked it alot. Squire used to have a bad name, but these instruments cant be beat at this price point I believe.

Peavey is another good choice in that price range.

Wanted to add this: The neck is really thin. If you have large hands, this may not be for you, and you could opt for the P model instead. As always, play them both!

As already said, go for the Squier VM Jazz. I don't think there is a better bass out there for the money. I went into Sam Ash the other day to look at new amps and ended up playing the VM Jazz for over an hour. It just feels like a $1000 or more bass. I am really suprised I didn't buy it. I am kinda wishing I had the money too.

Cool! I'll start a list. Thanks.

Aren't you the guy that was selling off a heap of budget basses a few months ago? Did you not save any for yourself to use? I'm confused.

Don't be confused! ;)

Finances come and go and things are ever changing. I haven't sold anything but Rickenbackers on Ebay for several months. I need a budget bass, without going into a long story for the reasons posted above. Got any ideas? Thanks.
