Bass Compressor: EBS Or Maxon? Vote!

MBRV, you haven't told us what you are trying to achieve with the compressor. For example, the EBS is capable of adding more warmth via the tubesim mode, and the multiband mode is very useful for slappers and others who go from high notes to low notes very quickly. But the Maxon is capable of a much greater amount of compression and peak limiting, and is more "high fidelity".

Another thing is I see the EBS for sale "used" all the time at very reasonable prices, while the Maxon rarely shows up used.

They're both excellent of course, but either way, depending on your actual compression needs/wants I might recommend something completely different.

and only time to ever try out a compressor, mostly based on Bongo's great reviews. I went for the EBS multicomp and its really helpe me with my tone and amp clipping issue I had. Im still learning to use the pedal each time at gigs but I can def say its helped me. Beginners luck maybe? :smug:

Maxon.... I like the transparent, high fidelity qualities of the pedal....I had the EBS at one time and I like the Maxon better....Nice Pedal for Slapping....Good luck finding one used, but I was able to get mine new for under 200....Alot, I know, but well worth it...

I'm with bongo on this one. Until I know what you're looking to benefit from by using a compressor, it's difficult to narrow the many, many choices out there into a smaller list that better fits your bill. People use compressors for different reasons, and for those reasons there are different compressors.

Also, do you use a four-string bass? Will you use it for anything other than bass? Are you looking for a stompbox or is it okay to include rack-mounted gear suggestions?

Ok. So what do i need of my future compressor? In no particular order...

1. sound limiting (limiting on slap, pop, and other sounds that are louder then regular picking);
2. multiband;
3. tube simulator (if possible);
4. sound pump-up (Les Claypool style check this video )
5. quality
6. stomp box
7. to use on 4 string bass

Any suggestions?
