Bass compressor?

IMO pretty much anyone who says "buy a Punch Factory" is someone that has never used a good compressor, and has no point of reference.

I'm sure there are exceptions, and I mean no offense to those few who actually have chosen the PF after trying other professional-grade comps.

Id have to agree with that. I used to love my PF, untill I tried an EBS, Demeter, Opto Stomp, and the built in comp on my Eden WT800. I then went back to try the PF and realised that pretty much, it does nothing.... :hmm:

i've got a couple of these would be willing to sell, gotta make some room

Tacky and inappropriate.

+1 to that.

Far as comp's go my take on the Demeter was that it was unsubtle - I never want to hear a compressor - limiter. The Carl Martin was a complete waste of time for the same reason and even worse in the color department. The EBS is OK but no match for a 166A or 160A or Symetrix 501 - for my needs the rack unit's just do it better.

I actually liked the PF - you have to hit it pretty hard to make it do it's thing though ... I did a few tracks using the PF as a DI in an emergency and it turned out pretty well. It is a very subtle compressor for sure. Best use I found for a somt - comp was in a chain along with a LPF, EQ and flange back whan I was looking for a synth sort of thing.

I despise the sound of a compressor on bass as an effect... it can work on guitar for some of the hot picker Nashville type guys - but on bass ? gleck ... so our needs might be mutually exclusive.

It's truly unfortunate that the Maxon has not made its way into more common circulation. All the Maxon pedals could benefit from some better marketing in the bass world.

FWIW though there are some circumstances where I might choose the Demeter over the Maxon- IMO they are equals, but different.
