ok heres the deal, iv got $80 and i want a good compressor, im contemplating between the digitech bass squeeze and the boss lmb-3, i play rock and hard rock, and i want a good compressor for that, i want to keep my good growly bass tone and will compressors let me do that? if you dont think i even need a compressor for what i do feel free to tell me that too. thanks for your help

I see no reason, based on your post, why you need a compressor. It sounds like you are already happy with your sound.
In that price range what I immediately think of BOSS CS-3, Line6 Constrictor, EBS Multicomp.
(Well, depending on what the prices are in your area)
Don't know anything about the Digitech. But IIRC I've not heard bad things about it.
No... compressor wont give you a growly tone. (unless you use it as a booster to overdrive your amp, but that's unlikely)
Do you have other effect pedals?

Lots of people dislike using compression in their live sound. I like the added punch it can give me. My Carvin BX500 head has a built in compressor that does a decent job.
I had the digitech you're considering and hated it. I couldn't get anything useful out of it and it did NOT give me the kind of compression I was looking for. Not sure exactly what it did, but whatever it was I didn't like it. Your best bet would be to go into some stores and check out different compressors. Get an idea of what the different ones actually do, and also if this is the kind of effect you really even want.

I have been using the BOSS LMB-3 for years. It works very well in a rock setting. I switched to the EBS Multicomp for a little while, but ended up going back to the BOSS. It's a great unit for a very good price.
