Bass DI for both active and passive basses

A buddy of his recommended an MXR DI pedal (my guess is may be the M-80). That is an active DI, correct? They don't want to spend too much money.

The M81 is more of a preamp/DI with semi-parametric mids...nice box. It will work well as DI with some powerful EQ shaping.

The M80 is the original DI+ which has a 3 band EQ with well chosen frequency points, a pre-shape scoop style EQ button and a distortion channel that can actually provide great utility without ever being used for distortion.

I think the M81 is more of a purist pre-amp/DI and costs a bit more. I own the M80 and it fine as a DI in live sound situations in my experience - for some, it may be a little less pristine than one would want for studio use.

All the Dunlop MXR stuff I've ever seen or used is durable, reliable and works well for live sound. Many think the M80 is great, cleaner alternative to the Sans Amp BDDI (albeit they are not exactly the same thing) and comes at a better price point.

actually, i shifted gears and went with an Ampeg PF50-T.

2 tube pre and 3 tube power - premp DI out AND transformer DI out.

no load at 8 ohms.

got a great deal on it too.
