Bass Guitar Design Project

A small group in the luthier's forum are working on a new bass guitar design. The design is to honor those who have taken care of us during this difficult time and for those loved ones who have past. We are looking for input and ideas. I invite you to join this post in this collaborative effort for developing a bass design that is both positive and meaningful.

The design will be given to any maker or manufacturer who wants to make it.

I would like to get some feedback on the use of a Phoenix design on the front of the guitar body. Do you like, dislike or have other ideas?

If you're meaning the first responders such as EMTs, nurses and doctors, I think a stylized red cross somewhere in the design would be cool.

I fully agree with you. Thanks for the input MonetBass. This makes me think that maybe we could have each inlay a different symbol. Can you design this cross?

I haven't found a stylized cross in my quick search. I did find a Caduceus which has been used as a symbol for medicine. I've attached a few more designs of a Phoenix. All images came from FAVPNG.com.

Hermes's staff, the Caduceus, became associated with medicine by mistake. The original symbol of healers, the rod of Asclepius, has one snake and usually no wings (in orange below):

Both are in current use by medical associations. So...yeah, no, either would do.

Thanks for the insight on the symbols. I really like your name.

I think we could use either. Since the Phoenix has wings, we could consider the bird having the rod of Asclepius in its beak.

Hi all, Today I starting working on the Phoenix design. Here is the initial try which is a graceful figure suggesting strength. I will reduce the size of the tail. I plan on incorporating the tail design somehow into the bridge and tailpiece. I like the way the wings suggest a heart shape. What do you think of the initial design?
