Bass guitars are really ugly.

Am I the only one that finds most basses horrendously ugly? All these basses that people post here as being beautiful I find to be either really gaudy or lame. Take the colors a Fender P-Bass Special/Delixe come in for example. Red with gold pickguard? Ewww.

I own a P-bass and a Stingray. P-basses have ok looks but are far from what I would call beautiful. I think my Stingray is kinda ugly but I still love it to death.

It's strange because I find pretty much all guitars look amazing while basses look mediocre to lame. Why can't basses look as good as guitars?

I can understand if you're talking about a J or P. I think their looks fail to inspire (But the sound is oh so pretty!) I play a Schecter Stiletto Studio with the honey satin finish. I think it looks really nice. Check it out here:

If you think that it looks gaudy or ugly, then I seriously don't understand your standards.

I promise I'm not trying to troll you guys. I've made posts here before, I've contributed to TB appropriately, and this is the way I genuinely feel. Go ahead and read my posts.

Some examples of color schemes I find ugly.

There is no comparison. It's something that's an eye-sore versus something breath-taking. One day, if I'm ever fabulously wealthy enough, I want to make a bass out of a Telecaster or Les Paul body.

It's nice to be agreed with, but I really don't find the look of that bass appealing either. It's far from ugly, that wood grain definitely looks nice, but I don't find it especially beautiful either.

Well, white w/tort is a staple of the Fender line of Guitars AND Basses... Blueburst is also a common guitar color. I'll give you the red / bronze one... ick

Compare this to:

trad burst and white... that is an other staple of BOTH the guitar AND bass world @ Fender for decades... and I'm sorry, Cherry burst (on guitar or bass) just makes me throw up a little in my mouth.

FYI: G&L makes an ASAT Bass that IS the Tele body shape... and Gibson makes a Les Paul bass.
