Shriekback just released a new album a few months ago. It's outstanding, just as good as "Oil & Gold" or "Big Night Music".

I'm going to have to check out Maximum Joy!

Les Pattinson from Echo and the Bunnymen is one of my all time favorites, yet no one ever mentions his name... I've incorporated quite a bit of his all-upstroke picking technique into my own playing, and i've found it can really help to get into the groove of a song... Definitely an amazing player in a ridiculously good band!

He's the reason i play fretless, him and Karn.

I tried to talk him into selling me his old fretless P-bass (the one with the white p-ups) back in December and he just smiled and said "No, Never!"

I've seen that bass in action a couple of times. Do they still do that thing with the "Bubblemen", those big stuffed bumble bee suits.

same here. the first four albums are all perfect in my book, the fifth is still pretty good, and the rest... well, there's a lot worse out there, but an awful lot better too. I don't think they were ever the same after the original drummer, Pete de Frietas, was killed in an auto wreck. Even though Will Sergeant and Ian McCulloch usually get most of the credit for that band, I think it was the rhythm section that really set them apart.

Watt seems to have recurring problems when doing sideman stuff-- he sounded great every time I heard him with his own bands, but with the Stooges and the Fog (with J Mascis taking up half the stage with piles of Marshalls) he just gets buried. FWIW, usually he uses Eden gear, but Iggy sez use SVTs....

Simon Gallup has a good live tone, kind of grindy but still pretty clear. He had two SVTs a few weeks ago when they were here.

I remember when Simon Gallup was playing through the Peaveys & The Stingray. The thing is, he still sounds exactly like Simon Gallup, with a whole different bass & backline setup.

I like L&R, but the last chance I had to see them was when their last album came out. And that album was as horrible as Orgy, who opened for them on that tour.

I've never actually seen L&R, although I've seen Bauhaus three times, peter murphy solo twice and David J. solo once.
I like L&R, but the last chance I had to see them was when their last album came out. And that album was as horrible as Orgy, who opened for them on that tour.

I saw them for their "Seventh Dream of a Teenage Heaven" and "Express" tours. They were a great band. Just a trio.

Speaking of Bauhaus, I got tickets for Peter Murphy for July at The House of Blues in Dallas!
