I am critical of the claimed helpfulness of the "rubber worm", but agree that mold problems are unlikely when used reasonably. My question is whether a few water drips are harmful. Besides potential stains, what is the harm?

Perhaps a few drips aren't harmful. The problem is that, with continued use, it will be more than a few and, typically, in the same spot. I'm not a luthier (and I don't play one on TV) but it seems like the potential for the water getting in a seam (and soaking the hide glue) is a bad thing. All in all, I'd rather not have water dripping in my bass.
