Most of those 80's MIJ Ibanez basses are far from being "low end" stuff, they are just not for everybody. Personally, I dig the later 80's pointy headstock RD series, and the MIJ SoundGears are sweet too.

Bass I bought on Ebay is missing a plate, now what?

He should have included it so ask him (my guess is its MIA) you might check a vintage Ibanez web page of some sort but that should be easy enough to fabricate,send a tracing of some type to Invalid Link Removed they might be able to help ask before you send tracing
The seller has replied - his tech mailed it out after doing a set-up. If the tech doesn't have it on his bench, he says he will do what he can to secure a replacement and send it to me.

He should throw in a few hens' teeth, for you trouble.
Sellers on ebay are strangled by the rules these days - they lose terribly if they don't act fast on the demands of a seller, whether legit or shady. I had no doubt he would have it to you quickly.
Contact the seller and tell them that you want the plate. It was in the pictures and should not have been removed.
One word of caution to anyone buying a bass on ebay. Do your research, ask questions and check feedback. Several years ago, I purchased what a seller described as a completely original 1978 Fender Jazz Bass. I won the auction. When the bass arrived, it was obvious that it was not original. One of the bridge saddles had been replaced and the neck binding was cracked on both sides at every fret. This indicated that a very poor re-fret job had been done. When I contacted the seller, he claimed that he didn't know much about the bass but was told that it was original when he purchased it 12 years earlier. I wondered how he couldn't know much about it since he had owned it for so long. I asked for a refund and he refused. I filed a complaint with ebay and paypal and got nowhere. I ended up trading the bass toward something else for about half of what I paid. Ever since then I stopped using paypal. My cousin is a postmaster and told me that if I make a purchase using a money order and send it via U.S. Mail and the seller cashes it and the item isn't as described it is considered postal fraud. I would rather see it and play it before I buy it but there are some good deals to be had on ebay. You just have to be careful.

Nowadays in the same situation you could scam the guts out of that seller if you wanted to...and you're guaranteed to get your money back about 95% of the time.
