Bass in rap music

When it comes to sounding well, and dropping a nice bass line, that's something that rap producers have always been excellent at. Invalid Link Removed has always been one of my favorites, and this is a digital, but you could easily slap it and it would sound good.


Anyone else have some contributions?

Yes, rap can be music.:eyebrow: It has beats, can have groove, and melody. I have listened, and like , Dre, Tribe Called Quest, Snoop, Wu Tang, and a lot of Roots lately, for almost 20 years, and I just realized what that the lyrics aren't melody, ....its the rhythm. A lot of people don't like some of the content, and I can understand that, but rap is music.

That first track (Warren G - Regulate) featured Gospel Godfather Andrew Gouche on the bass if I'm not mistaken. He played all over that album.

Like in all kind of music genre: there are bad rap music and there are some that great too.

For years I've been living inside the (production) 'community' of rap music myself, I tell you; You might be surprised at how very good talented musicians (also bassist) they are who involved in that rap music production.

To be fair, most original hip hop was sampled music. Spinning records and beat juggling sounds that were done before. Rick James, Earth Wind and Fire and many other funky bands were the root of hip hop beats. Sure some producers are creating great beats. I love hip hop myself. I also realize the root of the beats did not originate in live music form but from the amazingly creative dj's that created those beats.

To those who hate on rap. I can agree to a point because I don't like a lot of the commercialized stuff. There is some great rap/hip-hop being produced today still. I can't help but bob my head to Atmosphere, Blackalicious, and Del the Funky Homosapien (among many others). Like any form of music there is good and bad out there. Of course to some....just not their cup of tea.

Rap and hip hop was one of the most most important things to happento music in the late 20th century, if you cant see whats GREAT about it your either too too old/ ignorant/ deaf or possibly racist. yep.. im serious.

I dont mind the rap of the late 80s/early 90s.there was almost an innocence(sp?) to it.
Nowadays everyones gotta be all "hard" or bada$$.

Then theres the crossover to the .."top 40 rappy...r&b"..whatever you call it(I call it 13 yr old girl music)..all that stuff that is popular for 18 hours and rammed down your throat the whole time..its soooo cliche now, and the same formula over..n over...n over.
The good thing is ,it can't last forever(I hope;))..almost like what happened to glam in the late 80's.
Hmmm..but what will take its place..wheres the nirvana/pearl jam of today?


JMO?..rant over.

But yeah, some rap has/(had) cool bass lines.
