Bass is Easier?

I played guitar from age 12-18 and then started playing bass in college. That was 20+ years ago. For me, playing bass is much easier than guitar. However, the type of music I play doesn't require me to perform bass gymnastics. I can barely even play the guitar anymore. Everything seems so small and crowded.

OOOO WOW DOOD UR SO X-CORE U SHUR SHOWED DAT GUITARD OOOLLOLLO ROFLMAO

Also, that never happened.

Also, bass is easier.

Now, on the off-chance you are being genuine and that story actually did unfold then you're just a giant douchebag. You just don't go around wrecking other peoples' property, let alone their instruments. Grow up.

Is there any wonder why bass players don't get the respect other instruments get? We are our own worst enemy.

As wild4oldcars said, it's easier to suck at bass, but if anyone thinks its easier to be a good bass player than be good at any other instrument, then I don't think they understand how to play bass.

I suspect these folks might be guitar players who "play" bass. I've heard "He/she plays bass like a guitar player" far more times than I've heard that bass is easier.

Out of all the instruments I've had the fortune (or misfortune, depending on whether of not anybodys listening) to have been able to learn to play, (piano/keyboard, french horn, flute, guitar, drums, bass) bass is the easiest to get going on. It also requires the most restraint, so in that sense, it's difficult.

The simplest bass parts are easier than simplest guitar parts by some small amount. The simplest double bass (upright) part, is harder than what most ANYONE wants to contend with! Oh yeah, try violin.

What really matters is the expressive artistic results of the playing. Simple, hard, easy—those don't matter.

I try to respect instrument, hell the triangle can be complicated! Making sure the right resonance is produced with enough attack but not too much where it seems like you feel neglected and want to be known. In all seriousness every instrument brings it's own challenges, nothing is harder or easier just different demands.
