Bass is Easier?

Voice is my most difficult instrument. My "vocal fretboard" gets shorter every year now!

It turns out that my particular vocal talent is the inverse of my talent on the bass.As I get better, I get worse.

At a percussion workshop, a triangle player was asked what goes through his head while counting out 60 bars of rest. He replied that he quietly sings a little song that goes something like "I'm getting paid as much as him, do dah, do dah..." (ding)

Bass may look easy, even sound easy, until you are also expected to sing lead while playing and stay tight with the groove.

That my friends separates the men from the boys.

I can learn to play any part Paul McCartney played, but where
I get down on my knees in humility is trying to sing and play those parts.

Now when I write my own songs playing guitar, it's no biggy playing guitar and singing,
but the test comes when I draft the bass part around that vocal.

If I want to play the song live, I have to structure the bass part so I can sing with it,
while staying tight in the pocket.

Bass is harder because it must constrain fervent ego blasts of all guitarists and singers.
