Bass-Mid-Treble controls - which variety to use?

As some may have read from another post, im designing my own preamp, just for the hell of it.

I see that several several pre-amps out there use a standard Bass & Treble control, but that several have a semi parametric mid control..

Is there a reason that people use the semi parametric only on the mids? Would it not be better to have the semi parametric (without band width control) on the bass, mid, and treble? or is it just too much?

I'd love to hear what people think about the controls, and the benefits of each

Instead of a pot to sweep through the freq, use a 3 way switch to select 3 different freqs. I had a bart pre with a 3 way mid switch that I really liked. As far freq. per control, I like how aguilar has the bass at 40 or 50 hz, so from that to about 180hz. Mids somewhere like 250-800, and highs maybe 2k-10k. I don't know if that's even possible or not, but those would be nice choices IMO. Do some research of the big guys and go from there. Pretty cool project, let us know how it goes!
