Double Bass Bass/Music Jokes!!!

You may just be a jazz musician if……

- Your children have middle names like Brubeck or Coltrane
- You think Taco Bell has something to do with the trumpet in a mariachi band
- You think about cutting your own clarinet reeds from decorative bamboo house plants
- You have played at clubs where the band has outnumbered the audience.
- You are disappointed when you cannot see a saxophone players lower lip technique due to his beard.
- When you hear about marijuana being decriminalized, you think what a raw deal Gene Krupa got.
- You go see other jazz bands to chat with old friends
- You start cutting your own clarinet reeds from decorative bamboo house plants
- You go see other jazz bands to see if you can sub
- You go see other jazz bands to see if they play a 20 minute version of “Blackbird” as well as your jazz band can
- You tune your own piano regularly
- You tune other peoples piano just to play them
- You think a G string should be wound, not worn.
- You shop for a vehicle based on size, not mileage, so you can put your double bass in it.
- You can’t believe how much a country band actually gets paid for gigs.
- Your decorative bamboo house plants all die from having clarinet reeds cut from them.
- You join a country band “on weekends” because they actually get paid for gigs.
- You carry your “lucky” trumpet mouthpiece with you everywhere.
- When you hear someone being described as an upright citizen, you wonder if he is available to play bass.
- You argue with other jazz musicians that D minor is the ONLY minor key worth playing in.
- You notice that the price of decorative bamboo house plants has gone up so much that you start buying your clarinet reeds again.

Sorry about the OT.
We're supposed to be doing a side here together soon with guitarist Dale Bruning. Dale got sick and Ron got called to Europe for a date with Bill Fresell, who studied with Dale here in Denver. We'll be in the studio in Feb. for that now.
Dale and I did our duo thing together called "Our Delight' on the Capri label. Ron's side will be on that label too.
I'll drop some clips.......

To bring it back on topic -- I saw Mr. Miles with Matt Wilson's group about 3-4 years ago. Matt Wilson introduced Ron Miles as "three time world weightlifting champion." If you've seen RM, you can see the joke (which is the topic!!). :D

Btw -- Matt Wilson, Ron Miles, Dennis Irwin (rip), and Larry Goldings made up the group and I was able to hang/study with all of them over a two day stretch -- all beautiful people who changed my musical life.

PW -- really looking forward to the side . . . keep us posted!

I brought Ron into my trio (with Dale) here in about 95? when our great tenor saxist, Ron Washington passed. RM always said that gig was great for him to get his feet wet playing standards and straight ahead stuff. I'm old and some guys around here look at me as a kind of a father figure. Eric Gunnison and Pat Bianchi both call me "Dad".
On Ron's second week with us, I was sitting at the bar on a stool having coffee. Ron (Miles) came in, put his horn down and jumped up in my lap. I said "What the hell are you doing?" He said: "Oh, I dunno...this just seemed like the place to be". He stayed there until we started playing. Cool guy....I love him alot.
