Bass Northwest

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but I had to commend this place and their staff. I went up there today for the first time and they treated me like I'd been going there for years! After helping me get a bass down (they're very protective of their instruments, which is a good thing really) they set me up with a bass they thought I'd like as well as an amp they thought I'd like. Most of all, I loved that they had no problem with letting me play a really epensive bass. They tuned it up for me, made sure I was comfortable, and let me jam as much as I wanted. Eddie I believe his name was? Just the nicest guy in the world. LOVES to talk gear, and so do I so we got along quite well :p Anywho, I just wanted to say how completely satisfied I was and if you ever find yourself in Seattle, seek this place out. :bassist:

That place is amazing! I got my bass/amp there about 6 yrs ago, and though I was clearly a noob they treated me VERY respectfully. Gave me a great deal, set up my bass before I left, and have earned my ongoing admiration.

I've bought a few things from them via Internet and was very satisfied with my experience. Thumbs up!

Eddie is good guy, mos def! I hadn't been in there in over a year and I walk in and he says without a second's hesitation "Hey Scott, how ya been?" Seriously? And I've never actually purchased any expensive gear there in probably over 5 years. On top of that, he will sit down and talk to you about gear forever if the store isn't busy. I highly recommend people buy from them. Best of the best customer service!

Yeah Evan, the owner, did that to me a few months back. I had been in but hadn't seen him almost a year and he asked my how I was liking my bass I bought from them last year.
Love that place. I've bought 2 cabs, 2 heads and 1 bass so far from them and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

If you can battle the bums that swarm around the store, once you get inside it is quite the place! I always loved going in there! With the online selection, you would think the store would be huge, but they do a good job cramming a lot of bass in a tiny corner store. Last year I had to move to Texas for my career, so now it's a pilgrimage to Bass Emporium.

I still wear my Bass NW T-shirt :)

I bought two basses from them through the internet / phone and they were super cool. For the first bass, they actually delayed shipping it to me because they felt that the setup wasn't quite right and wanted to work on it more. They called me to tell me that it would take another day to ship. I was sad that it took longer, but when it arrived it was perfect. Bass NW is fantastic.

I had the exact opposite experience with them. I went there for years, since they first opened, spent thousands, and in the end, they treated me like ****, like they didn't even know me, even though they ALL knew me by name, and my final deal there cost me LITERALLY THOUSANDS of dollars in two consignment deals gone bad, and they sold an MTD custom order I had been waiting on for nearly two years because they couldn't wait a day or two for the insurance claim to be settled on one of my basses they had crushed in shipping.

In the 12 years I dealt with them, I brought them MANY customers, a luthier who had sold dozens of basses through them, students bought stuff, I spent over $15,000.00 over the years...bought a $7,000.00 MTD off them, then ordered ANOTHER ONE...you'd THINK they'd treat me like a good customer...they put the boots to me like NO STORE EVER HAS. My worst retail experience EVER.

Will NEVER go there again...will warn EVERYBODY about my experiences.

Bass Northwest - :mad::rollno::scowl::spit::bawl::confused:

Awful place.

Sincerely,
Cameron

^I cannot even IMAGINE those guys treating anyone like that. weird.

Anyways, I've always loved the place. Last time I was in there (January?), I was just kind of milling about and got to talking with.....oh man, I spaced his name, I believe Evan? (bald guy?)...anyways, I was telling him about my rig and everything, we checked it out in the blue book (bought my Sunn 2000s for under value, as it turns out! Sweet!), and I asked him about the EBS Classic 90. He set me up with it, along with a Japanese Fender 75 RI in Ocean Turq Metallic, (phenomenal bass), and then while I tested it out, we sat there and literally talked for two+ hours. I was playing some Grand Funk, and he started telling me about seeing them, and the conversation just went from there about all this classic rock, about his rigs, about what I listen to, etc. He showed me some pictures of him and Noel Redding (BIG influence for me), talked about Cactus, and Tim Bogert, Geezer Butler's Laney that they had go through some years back. It was really just a fantastic experience. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Love you Bass Northwest!

I've been in there only once, and I haven't bought anything there yet, but I found them to be helpful without being pushy. They seem to be knowledgeable, and they have a pretty nice selection of stuff considering the small size of the store. I wouldn't hesitate to buy something from them.

I've bought a couple of basses from them over the years, and while they were very nice with me over the phone and on emails, it felt to me more like they were more interested in the sale overall (and being a business, I can't completely blame them for that). Nothing ever made me say "Wow, I need to go back there!" though.

Whereas, their competition in Florida has made me feel like I'm getting great service in addition to a great product. They've been great, answering questions, making recommendations and joking around.

I've only bought one bass from them and it was about 10 years ago. I bought a used Tobias Growler, and given the risk you take when you buy used, the bass I got was in horrible playable condition. The neck was bowed and the truss rods had little to no affect on it. It had to have heat treatment and clamping in order to straighten it out. There were a ton of high frets and a few of them were so bad that there were at least 3 dead notes on the neck.

Now given that this would sound more as an issue with the bass and not with them, when the bass was on the site it was listed as being in excellent condition, to which I didn't think this qualified as excellent condition. When I contacted them for a return they would only give me credit and I didn't even get an apology for what I consider them selling a poor instrument under false pretenses. Ever since then I have been reluctant to do business with them, even given them credit that the issues lay with the bass itself. I just expected the situation to be handled better than it was.

Evan runs a very professional outfit. I have bought and sold several basses including some of my own custom built basses when I was building. They are overwhelmingly knowledgeable about basses, equipment and the marketplace. As I live in Oregon, my first choice for equipment is always Bass Northwest.

I've never met Evan or Eddie, but enjoyed 'talking bass' with them as they helped me get my fingers on my Kinal, my first Thunderfunk, and first Dingwall. Great guys! My only problem was minor - somehow my Indigoburst AB-1 arrived in Seattle transparent black. :hmm: Just had to be patient a few more weeks and all was ...
