Bass octave question (octave down)

Hey everyone. I need suggestions on a pedal that will produce a clean octave down, with a blend of dry bass tone.
Before I get hammered with "every octave pedal will do this" the effect I'm trying to achieve is something like the intro to Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar. Those opening C# notes sound like they are played 4tb fret A string, but sound doubled an octave lower.
I don't really have the budget for POG\Pitchfork and the like, but I'm looking at such pedals as Aggy Octamizer, MXR bass octave, EBS Bass Octave deluxe, Boss OC2\OC3 etc.
What would get me closest people?

Problem is, only a digital octaver like a POG is going to go that low. There's a reason a POG costs a little more.

I think he'd be totally fine hitting the C# on the A string with anything mentioned in the OP.

The Octamizer is fairly clean sounding, and is also one of my favorite octaves.

The OC2 would be fine as well although a little more synthy sounding. I haven't heard much good about the OC3 and bass.

I don't have much experience with the MXR.

I have both the Micro POG and an MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe on my pedal board. For what the OP states he's looking for, the MXR will work better, I believe. The POG generates a lot of overtones, and I don't think that will give the OP the sound he's seeking. I mostly use the POG for an octave up, almost turning the down completely out, and at that, mostly for soloing or adding a little variety to a mix of effects.

The POG has a special flavor to it. Its not a true octaver in the sense that it is polyphonic and seems to harmonize what you play also, not just give you the blend of an octave up and/or down that you dial in.

Thanks for this thread. I've got an old DOD octave pedal, that gets the job done for the most part, but it's not great and I've been considering getting something that tracks better and is actually made for bass.

I listened to the music video real quick and actually didn't hear a definitive octave at all. The tone does have a good amount of low end and pick attack though. Check out a more recent live video of them playing this song he is actually playing a 5 string on that song. Although it's hard to tell that it's a 5er at from a distance.

I was able to find a recent rig rundown by premier guitar and he has a sans amp, source studio bass distortion, line 6 dl4 and two tc rack processors. in the interview the tech makes it sound like sugar is mainly sans amp.

I use a HipShot Xtender to drop down to C# for that one when using my 4 string. I actually have a double stop so that I can go down to D or C#. It comes in pretty handy and can be had for less than an octave pedal. FWIW (I have a couple octave pedals on my board but I don't use them for that song)

The MXR Bass Octave has a good clean octave down sound (the "girth" knob). At this point I've somehow acquired 3 octave pedals (mxr, boss oc2 and pog) and between them, the mxr has my favorite clean sound, the oc 2 has my favorite dirty/synth sound and the pog is best for polyphonic and octave up.
