Bass-off: Please help me decide!

Thanks everyone for helping me out with this decision. It seems the fender and lakland is really popular in the style i am interested in. Scales and string spacings dont really seem to be a problem for me, I mean its just going to take a little getting used to and practice will perfect everything regardless of the bass specifics (atleast i feel it will).
Ive been watching ebay religiously and also spotted some used Fender Marcus Miller IV's that im keeping an eye on. Im really partial to the way this bass looks, something about the natural wood finish just settles well with me. But depending on when i make the purchase, the best deal will definitely get the nod and from the response its probably going to be between a fender and a lakland.
Thanks so much guys & girls, i really appreciate the community coming together and helping a stranded bassist out. No doubt your input will directly be contributing to my playing.

A Fender Jazz bass would be accepted just about everywhere.

May I suggest the Carvin JB series? Carvin is well respected, and just as serious about what they "make" as any other manufacturer. I've owned (and used) a TON of Carvin stuff over the last 4 decades, and have always appreciated their attention to detail and customer service.

Thanks for all your input, although nobody recommended this Cort, it was the only one i could play before buying and I got a killer (in comparison) deal on it. Got it brand new in box with a cable + new pack of d'addario exp's for $ 760.

If you have the dough, go for a used Lakland 55-02. They are well made, have the most flexible electronics out there, and are a steal for what you are getting. They lack some of the special options that the US made ones have, but tone wise are almost identical.

2. Cort Custom-Z A5 (not maple necked but still a good instrument)
3. Ibanez BTB 675m (beastly looking instrument)
4. Lakland Skyline
5. Ernie Ball Music Man Sterling Ray 35 (I'm biased towards this one, because well frankly who isn't)

What i need from my esteemed fellow low-enders (Again, that's yous guys):
1. Since i cant try out any of these instruments, I'm sure there are people out there that have, Can i please get your 2 cents ?
2. Recommendations on what else you think might suit my requirements
3. A group hug.

Don't shy away from the MIM stuff. Way better than it used to be.
