Hello everyone! I've been following this forum for some six months and I must say it's awesome! Helped me a lot! So, I started working on my new album. BUT this is the first album I plan to do using only bass and probably drums in some parts of a few songs. I've been recording and expanding riffs for a few month now. I would say that pre-production is done and some recordings have been started. Problem is I don't have any reference song or album for that, so my goal with this thread is to hear your voices, your opinions, your thoughts. So far I can only say it's a melodic kind of music. I'm using fingers, not pick and in half of songs I use chord changes and combinations as classical guitarists do on their instruments. But as soon as I finished it, it'll be online. P.S. Sorry for mistakes. English is not my native language.
See Through Two - two bass jazz project with Rob Clutton and Pete Johnston Dos - two bass band with Mike Watt and Kira Roessler Howie Reeve + Mike Watt
تمّ إيقاف العمل بالمتصفّح الذي تستخدمه. يُرجى الترقية إلى إصدار أحدث. My good buddy and Bass brutha Jon Moody (works for GHS Strings as well) put out an excellent Bass Only Album.
I think it's cool that you're making a bass only album. Kudos! By the way, you said English isn't your language. (It isn't mine either.) May I ask where you live?
Thanks! But, compared to Victor Wooten, mine will sound more like "Bass only songs - for kids". Kidding! I don't use slap and it's in whole another direction, but I like all the inputs I so far got in here. It'll help me alot. Where I'm from? Let's call that an Europe.
from first metallica album, cliff burton solo (the studio one is awesome, a little different from this, but this is still good) Not probably what you meant, but still a cool reference!
I think good examples could be: 1. Marcus Miller - Mr.Pastorius 2. Jaco Pastorius - Portrait of Tracy 3. Jaco Pastorius - Continuem
Tnx! I grew on Metallica, so... Idea around this album started with a as clean/dry as possible bass sound. But I'm already using a reverb in one song and probably a bit of overdrive in another. I'm trying to avoid that Cliff, Thundercat, David 504, etc stuff. But I like to listen their music. Some things from doublebass part of forum were very inspiring, but I also need this part of forum. I'm hoping that from listening of similar ideas, I'll discover what I need, but also what I don't need.
He has that effect with everybody What kind of style are you looking for? I'm thinking something like this with fingerstyle and chords? And why not bass and tap dancing
Jonas Hellborg has some Bass Only stuff. Unfortunately it's kinda hard to find. Then there is Manring, of course.
