Bass overdrive suggestion

I need a suggestion for an actual OVERDRIVE
I want a SLIGHTLY dirty, SLIGHTLY gritty pick tone.

NO fuzz NO distortion
Overdrive

I already have an EHX Bass Big Muff Pi, Fuzzrocious Momster and a Boss HM-2.
That covers my Distortion, kinda fuzzy and ridiculously fuzzy tones.

SO, what do you all recommend for light grit, little bit of hair. Kinda dirty tone for picking.

THOUGHTS?

This is where everyone will tell you their version of good - which is all subjective, and usually not too useful. I will add to the pile in the same fashion.

ZVex Distortron. I feel like this pedal is a nugget of a find and oft overlooked. I use it for a nice medium grit/grind. It adds a little bass boost so the drive doesn't lose your bass integrity (it actually adds a touch of girth). Technically it is meant to emulate a Marshall driven tone - but I've found that the color it gives on every amp is complimentary, and never sucking your tones original intent. Good grind, definition, and attack. It has lasted past my VT and my Agro in terms of added drive, FWIW.

The Distortron (and Box of Rock that it was developed from) give some Marshall style crunch. Likewise, the SFT has some Ampeg like sounds to it. Both are great at what they do but will definitely color your tone somewhat.

On the other hand, if what you're looking to do is take your clean tone and just add some grit and dirty it up then I'd look at a couple other options.

The Barber LTD SR is a great pedal for just adding some grit. So is the Creation Audio Holy Fire but it does a much rounder/vintage style OD rather than dirty/gritty rock tones.

The Fulltone OCD is another along these lines. And the Xotic BB Preamp too.

In case you hadn't tried...

Your BBM can give subtle sizzle if that's what your after. I use mine on blend with the volume and sustain below 9 oclock then use the tone to control what frequencies get the sizzle.

The only problem with this is that I can get it to sound good in the upper register, and the lower register, but not both at the same time. As an always on, I'd recomend trying the blue checkered pedal (someone had to say it) but to rough up a small part of a song the BBM works well. The price is right anyway.

Just ordered one online;if it sucks monkeyballs,I'm coming for your apeshizzle!

Don't you come sailing over here with your beardy friends and their axes. Again.

Here in York we have an annual longship race each year and all of Norway's hardest dudes come over to compete and drink lots of booze. I've always thought it would be funny if all the English blokes used that weekend to invade Norway, then when they all went home they'd find out we've pillaged the entire place and we'd be all "How does that feel, Norway?" :D
