bass pick opinions

Dunlop .88 or 1. nylon. Simple.
As I leave them behind on beer soaked stages... I'll upgrade to the max grips.

Celluloid 1.0. I don't want he tip moving on me. I still have a few from the 1980s (don't use them often, but always keep one wedged into the strings of my headstock for the rare times I want one).
Maybe 30 years ago I developed a habit of carrying a couple of picks in my front change pocket all the time. Many people who know me as a 'multi-instrumentalist', and know my aforementioned habit give me pics as gifts (usually unique in some way). Since I use a pic for bass rarely, when I do I use whatever is in my pocket
The Tortex green , yellow is ok too. Just the right amount of click, but moves the string with authority.

I make my own, usually with the cutoffs from other woodworking projects. They give a nice deep attack with very little clack
I didn't use a pick at all during my first 18 years of playing. For the last 6-7 years I use a pick 30-40% of the time.
I liked the Dunlop Max-Grip picks. I tried everything from 0.73-1.14, and settled on 1.0 and 1.14 depending on string tension.
Last Summer during a rehearsal I found a Dunlop Ultex Jazz III sitting on a shelf. There was still a bit of an adjustment period, but I liked it better than the standard pick size. I could play faster and a bit more accurately (fingers closer to strings), and I liked the tone better.
Plus, with the smaller size, it's easier to switch from pick playing to fingerstyle in the same song, holding the pick with my 4th and 5th digits.
The only bummer I found with the Ultex is that once you drop it, finding it is a lot of work due to the translucent phlegm color.
Most recently I switched to the red nylon Jazz III. Despite being listed as the same thickness (1.38) as the Ultex, something about the material makes it seem a bit more flexible. I like more flexibility with a stiffer or higher tension string.
The red nylon Jazz III is available as Max-Grip, which is helpful during sweaty gigs. I have a pack of these on the way right now, but I'm not sure if the Max-Grip will interfere, as I like to use the tip or round edges of the pick depending on the song.

I play mostly fingerstyle but will use a pick when I think it makes a difference for a given song. I prefer thicker picks, like the 2mm and 3mm Big Stubby. Thinner picks are too "clacky" for me and I don't like the flimsy feel.

I use felt picks. But I play very heavy handed with a pick and with poor technique, so if I use anything else it will sound like I'm using a quarter for a pick.
The Fender 355 heavy. I've used them for decades but they don't make them any more (except in light, which is useless). I have about 75 of 'em, scattered between all my bass cases.
When did they stop making them? I bought some a few months ago at a music store.
