bass pick opinions

I split my pick playing between yellow tortex and jazz iii, been using both for guitar and bass for a long time

I like thick,inflexible picks.
Why?


There is no pick flexing,so there is no delay of motion transfer.
All the pick motion energy is transferred to the string.
The blunt,rounded tip slips easily over the string.
It's like using your index finger tip.
Moving the string only.

Top left to bottom right:

I've been starting to use a pick about 25-30% of the time recently. The Tortex .88mm is the pick I chose based on attack and durability. I thought about trying a thumb pick just for kicks. My dad plays Steel Guitar. Might have to bum one off of him and see how it goes.

I really dig playing with fingers, but some songs just doesnt sound right with fingers. I prefer something around 1mm thickness, currently use dunlop nylon midi 1.14 .In addition to that I have developed technique of "nail picking", I lean my index finger on my thumb and pick the strings with my index's nail just like with a pick, both up and down strokes. This can produce pretty nice tones, but it somewhat eats the nail.

I would guess so, Pickboy is a very common brand. Amazon seems to have them

Try doing a search if you haven't already, too. There's a few pretty extensive threads on the topic kicking around.

These are my weapon of choice as well. The grip is nice. The color is noticeable without being silly. The slightly lighter thickness is more comfortable for me, as sometimes using a pick causes pain in my thumb.

I use the picks I got when I ordered strings from just strings dot com. They're thin and snappy, which gives my tone lots of brightness. I'll also use Jazz III because i have a ton from playing guitar too.

I'm a 99.5% finger style bass player. I'm also a 99.5% pick guitar player. This is my question to TB community: what is your BASS PICK of preference? I ask because I want to include a bass pick for definition/attack when it's needed.

I use the black Dunlop Jazz III picks. They are the only picks that utilize the Stiffo material which reduces pick noise. I've tried many other Dunlop picks and other brand picks as well, but I always stick with the Jazz 3's, and I've used them for 25 years now.

Old school cool whip covers were thicker. Could cut them up and make picks. Have used old credit cards, drivers licenses, and bread ties, Not that I was broke, an environmental whacko, or just nuts.... well maybe I was nuts.

I used heavy pics for a long time because I hated any bend. It started to hurt my hand because I have a heavy attack. While playing a pick that came in the box from a tube purchase I had made I realized slightly lighter to give it just a little flex solved my problems. I played the Dunlop .88 tortex greens for a while but moved to the celluloid medium pics. For some reason they just sound and feel better to me.

The heavy ones? Fender still shows the medium ones on their website, but not the heavies. I mistakenly said only the light ones were still available. The heavy ones have been gone for years.

That's weird. Maybe I bought one of the last packs the store had or something, I just double checked and they say Heavy on them. I bought them in August or September of this year and a quick search shows they're still widely available online. I might have to buy a few more packs sometime if they're out of production. I don't play with a pick very often but those are the only picks I like.

I like Fender 346 Heavy. They fit my hand well and I can get a dozen for under $4.

As I'm reading through the comments, I wonder what style of music people are playing with their pick choices. When I use a pick, it's for metal and punk
