BASS PLAYER CRONOS-VENOM

Anyone know about his playing style history methods effects@ anything?!?
I tried to find out what bass he started with online But he's had a few....many seemed to be customised models too so.....
Love his animalistic instinct-lead show off) style if its the words!! Plus he did vocals & lyrics too.....Kinda a lead-bassist/writer like in German band Sodom!! I'd be learning for same reason(s)

Cronos and Lemmy were Tom Angelripper's idols. He bought a cheap german Destroyer bass copy as his first bass, before even knowing how to play, because it looked like Cronos' bass!

I'd have to say, although it wasn't probably the most used of his, the most common you could find or anyway the more iconic, would indeed be the Ibanez Destroyer bass (that's been used by Tom Angelripper since In The Sign of Evil to Persecution Mania I guess... I'm sure for Persecution Mania and that tour. Probably something later as well and I'm guessing he used it after the first demos as well).

Cronos also used an Aria bass, the same that Cliff used (although I can't remember the model).

About effects and amps, I've been wondering as well, but I can't find anything, except for an Acoustic 220 (solid state studio bass amp... live he used something else because apparently that amp wasn't loud enough for their live style) and the guess that he used ''Marshalls'' live... I can't tell if guitar or bass models.

Anyway, Cronos, Lemmy and Tom are three of my favourite bassists as well (as tone, playing, charisma and everything else they do for the band!).

I hope someone else replies here and I hope I've been helpful!
Nice thread!

There's some utube footage of cronos bass solos from Germany 1985 where's he's got a red fretless bass and is playing footpedals I can hear) and same kinda stuff from London 1985.....
I think watching that recently was the final push to get myself one cause.....Wayy!!
Angelripper had a red coloured bass shown live from 1980s footage.....Bit of a Z-shaped one) think it shows up again in later footage of him too) yeah I'd massively him too and again not much known.....except they show Engel brand amp in footage as well as marshalls I remember) Cheers Mr

That red bass you're talking about that Tom had is the Ibanez Destroyer (same model and color that Cronos also had).
Amp-wise he used a Marshall JCM800 (although I don't know if bass or lead series) and a Marshall Shredmaster pedal (this was Tom's setup in the early days, until Persecution Mania and that tour... after that it changed a bit).

And Cronos' bass solo from the Hammersmith date was done with the Aria bass that Cliff Burton also used, which I mentioned.

Core blimey everyone's tastes in gear is getting around a Bit!!! Did seem to me that the Hammersmith gig the bass neck looked eXtra long?!?
But maybe just the close up shots)
I'm too new to know much about brands yet thou.....I never thought about Marshalls for bass players tbh....thou I did see tiny marshalls/practise amps for newbies on guitar)
I went for something cheaper and larger for guitar and bass myself)
Be scared of deafness tbh even if I could afford one!!

Deafness isn't a problem if you use earplugs.
I shaged up my hearing so I always wear earplugs at gigs, band rehearsals, and such.

Not when I play by my own, though, because I don't turn the volume up much and don't play for too long.

Anyway I guess that Aria bass is medium scale although I'm not sure.
And yep, Marshalls aren't a common choice among bass players, but some do like them.
Lemmy used Marshalls too, but guitar versions, because he thought the bass ones sounded weak.
And still, he even modded those guitar heads. But it's all up to personal taste...

I'm sure there's people who know more than me: I've played very few basses and amps in my life, unfortunately.

Really I'd like "volume reducer" earplugs for attending gigs.....
I love loudness and my ears have been tested as "normal ranges" by specsavers....But Ive had ear infection from general stress and the pain made me mental.....had it again recent in #1 ear so I guess some cautions there?!?
But most earplugs seem to be for sleep like total blockers-going too far)

Checking Dayal Patterson's Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult, I found this excerpt:

Seems like he's secretive about his gear

Conrad also has all of his necks "defretted" from the 12 fret up....kinda weird but I always noticed that with him. He now mostly plays a Fernandes Tremor.
Erm frets yeah I like those....kinda handy-look good too!! Saw on utube video Cronos with a fretless bass makes neck look eXtra long)
I get alarmed when peeps start taking away guitar parts!! I just watched an awesome song video by journey where one guy was holding a "headless" black guitar.....Why??? Ffs
