Bass player vs ants: ants win

Does Tassie = Tasmania? Someone who uses another English dialect wants to know what that Jawn is.

Yes, Tassie is Tasmania. Australians have a habit of shortening names and adding either a ie/y sound to the end or an o sound. (don't know jawn is one of you 'Merican' words isn't it, a word for joint or place?)
Barbeque = barbie, Freo = Fremantle (a city in Western Australia), we do the add an o thing with mens names a lot, Johno, Robo, Daveo. Or if you're going to a liqueur store, (or bottle shop, down here), it's the bottleo.

Like the USA, we're a nation largely of immigrants, apart from the indigenous inhabitants we muscled in on a few centuries ago... There's a fair bit of UK/Cockney riming slang mixed into the Aussie vernacular, plus, Irish and Scottish, which sort of formed our way of speaking.

Oh, can't tell you what a map of Tasmania is when it's not actually a map of Tasmania, not without getting moderated... It's sort of an inverted triangle shape, now use your imagination....;)
