Bass player who influenced you?

The people who influenced me early on were:

Krist Noveselic
Geezer Butler
JPJ
Jaco

The larger list of players that I think have influenced me in general actually has a lot of guys from bands who's names I don't know (but some that I do)
Here's that list:

Mogwai
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Explosions In The Sky
Tom Waits
Ben Folds Five
Cap'n Jazz
Built to Spill
Brand New
Staind
Virgos Merlot
Om
Electric Wizard
Red Fang (the newest addition to this list)


...this could go on and on, but each of those had something that I can distinctively remember giving me a moment of "Oh!" and creating a new little neural connection in my brain.

As a boy in junior High it all started by listening to Iron Maiden band leader bassist Steve Harris

Later i got influenced by the James Brown bassists Bernard Odom ,Fred Thomas, Bootsy C.

My pop influences are John Taylor of Duran duran , Andy Rourke of The Smiths and Brian Ritchie of Voilent Femmes

Miroslav Vitous and Stanley Clarke really got me to start to double upright

I also am influenced by Rocco Prestia , John entwistle and Stuart Zender.

(there even more bassists that have an equal influence on me but this is allready longwinded)

My main influence and the reason I play bass today is Paul McCartney.

I remember being pretty young and being really tuned into the bass on Beatle records. I was around 6 when Sgt. Pepper was released and I remember listening to it over and over again.

For me, it was two people. Rudy Sarzo, and Tim Gaines of Stryper. I didn't really focus on their actual playing, but they both had a similar image I was attracted to. They were both good, solid players, but they had this "I'm here, but I'm not the focus of the band" kind of vibe going. Very low key compared to other members in their bands. I just liked how they physically played, they didn't run around, they moved with the groove. Jaco and the like do absolutely zero for me. I watch it, listen to it, and shake my head. Bass as a solo instrument was not what got me started.

jaco, jonas hellborg. percy jones, john wetton, mick karn, pino palladino, willie weeks, victor wooten, alphonso johnson, jimmy haslip, chris squire. benny rietveld, bobby vega, george porter junior, prakash john, alan baculis, ron carter, ray brown, miroslav vitous, herbie hancock, miles davis, wayne shorter john paul jones, rocco prestia, geez and so many more bass players and other instrumental players as well ...
