BASS PREAMPS,YOUR FAVORITE!

Even though I don't use it to drive a power amp, I think a Tone Hammer will? Not sure. But I find it to be a damn fine piece of equipment and VERY easy to use.

The Tone Hammer will drive a power amp just fine. Done it many times :)

For electric bass, if I didn't have a Reiner 6SL7 tube pre, I'd be looking seriously at the Arkham Zephyr or possibly the Noble. For upright, Grace Designs Felix is the best thing I've found so far. For my doubling rig just for size and convenience, I have a pedalboard that sits on top of my cab. Tone hammer for electric, Felix for upright, into a switcher then onto a GK MB800 at the moment. Sets up and tears down real fast and I can switch instruments very quickly as well. If I could find a good power amp the same size as my MB800, I'd do that

Niiiiiiice! That Felix Grace is something I may need to save up for.

My Agro has replaced my TH. IMO, they sound similar at low gain settings. And I just prefer the Agro a smidge more.

I'm not familiar with the Agro...pics? Info? Very curious!

Edit! The Aguilar Abro pedal? I guess I thought of that more as a dirt box than a pre. You get enough tone shaping to use it as a pre?

I got a little mixed up. Was thinking I was in another thread. DOH!

But yes: I've used it many times as a standalone preamp with IEM's. Sounds great with my URB, too!

As promised, my pedal board just set up for doubling:

this thread reminded me to get off the fence and just buy the yamaha pb-1 that i'd been eyeing. i'm kind of hoping all these pedal preamp/effects makers move on to making rack mounted gear. i don't play a lot of pedals, but find the whole pedal power thing, plus velcro board, plus finding the correct order for least noise/best result, overall kind of frustrating. the Rusty Box is a great preamp that works great running into a power amp, why not just put it into rack mount chassis? or better yet, just couple it with a 300 or greater watt power amp? i guess i'm kind of glad that new pedals are going for more than the old reliable rackmount stuff. i bought the yamaha pb-1 for $175 shipped and have my eye on a few others in that price range.
