I'll try and keep this short and sweet.

Is there a program where you can play the notes that are on a bass guitar by clicking them on your computer? Not sure this makes sense, but I want to experiment writing bass lines on the computer. I'd love for it to take the notes I pressed and put them into a tab sheet.

Does this make any sense at all to anyone? If you think you might know of anything remotely close, let me know. I'll try to clarify more if possible.

It's not exactly what you're looking for, but 'Powertab' and 'Guitar Pro' are programs that let you write in tab and will play back in midi audio. They've been great at writing out songs in bands I've been in, or for creating practice drills.
