Bass Review Magazine: Is it a scam?

Sadly, print publishing has become prohibitively expensive, forcing many to adopt the publishing version of pay-to-play.

The following is not bass-related and is merely for your reading entertainment -- here's an old [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] from someone in that industry who saw how reviews were meant to please advertisers.

Well - something is going on. I also got the first 11 issues, missed 12, got 13, and that was it. I have contacted them multiple times and nobody returns my emails. Long ago (when I had to chase them for the strings) they at least got back to me.

I have been paying by PayPal and will have to open disputes. I will try the Dan email above.

It's not a scam...
The mag exists, or at least did...
I subscribed from the start and received the first 11 issues.... (and the offer strings... eventually)
Then it seemed to go a bit awol....
I spoke to Dan in person at the recent Bass show in Birmingham with my concerns and he did say he had distribution problems, and would send my missing issues 12 & 13....
I waited.... and waited some more.
So I then decided to cancel my subscription before my next payment....
Further contact with Dan was that he would refund my Feb & Mar subs but send the missing issues. As a goodwill gesture I feel....
I did receive the refunded subs and issue 13 did arrive. No sign of issue 12 though....
I think it's a shame cos I like the mag and Dan does seem a nice guy, but it would seem he's 'up against it' with a minority interest mag...
I suspect he has lost advertising revenue due to the problems and I hope he manages to sort stuff out ...

I paid for 4-5 issues, I think before canceling and still have no idea what the magazine might look like. I don't think it was intended as a scam, but the end result didn't differ much for me.

It's not a scam.

I will say that a hardcopy magazine in this day and age, for a niche interest no less, is a project that is doomed to fail.

I did finally get a magazine and it was nothing worth paying for. I had alot of trouble getting ahold of anyone to cancel and even after they responded and said it was canceled I continued to be charged. Eventually it was finally canceled and the money was refunded. Overall not a good experience but they're not a scam, just not a good product or responsive company.

I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning because I’m old school and like physical media. As everyone predicted, they just switched to digital format due to rising costs. Another one bites the dust.
