Thank you all for an educational discussion. T'was I who erroneously called the tonic of a scale the root it's been 50 years since I did any serious music theory. please forgive me. I am learning stuff that I never knew back then!
Have to agree and thank you to the OP: gave me stuff to think about... isn't that a rare thing these days?

There's a tritone interval in every mode. @Tom Kinter

Mixolydian is the ONLY mode that has a tritone between the 3rd and 7th.

For the sake of completeness (trying not to be pedantic), the 4th mode of Melodic Minor (ascending), Lydian Dominant (Mixolydian #4) has a tritone between the 3rd and 7th.

BTW, The Carole Kaye video earlier posted is worth watching.
