BASS SOLOS!

The interlude, yes. Solo, no.

I wouldn't even call any part of this song a bass solo, but it is quite easy and a good little bit of music to learn when you're starting out.

Some of my favorite bass solos :

Allan Holdsworth - Water on the brain pt. 2 (Jeff Berlin)
Spastic Ink - The 178 thing, Mosquito Brain Surgery (Pete Perez)
Cortland - Controversy, Splinter, A hand full of earth (Sean Malone)
Gordian Knot - The brook, The ocean (Sean Malone)
Cynic - Textures (Sean Malone (stick solo))
Tom Kennedy - Oleo
Watchtower - Dangerous Toy (Doug Keyser)
Tribal Tech - Salt Lick, Self Defense ... (Gary Willis)
Spiral Architect - Fountainhead (Lars K Norberg)
Atheist - Green (Tony Choy)

All of them may not be easy but it all depends on how good you are though.

I find it odd when people call bass breaks (that aren't soloish at all) bass solos. Example: Everyone kept talking about the solo in By The Way by The chilis and I listened it it several times until I realized that they were talking about when Flea plays the verse without vocals and the drums and guitar spike.

although strangely you can hear Newsted clearly on the recorded-on-a-shoestring-budget $7.98 Garage Days revisited covers EP eg. "The Wait".

Whoa, I didn't know inflation could hit album titles! ;) When I picked this up, it was the $5.98 Garage Days EP. Did they re-release this?

the cunning stunts video (metallica) bass/guitar doodle (heh heh, doodle) is bloody easy so is the live **** binge and purge solos.
anesthesia is bloody easy all it is is arpeggios mostly the thing you've gotta work on is ur right hand speed.
i've only been playing for 1&1/2 years now but it took me a month to learn anesthesia,1 hour to learn to newstead stuff. play with ur fingers not a pick

2. Eh..lol Anesthesia isn't really that easy either..I mean it's not impossible, but I wouldn't dream of calling it easy.

But hey, if you can hit 16ths at 180, be my guest. ;)

3. There's no bass solo in Ktulu. But the wah and the screaming effects are the bass, but again it's not a solo.

Scare tactics. I was being sarcastic :D and when i said call of ktulu i mean it in the same text as BP13, they aren't really true solos but they work :D

Still if you want something challenging , these songs are a good place to start :D

What solo in orion? When the bass bridges the heavy part to the classical soundingish one? Is that the solo? Is there another solo-ish thing somwhere in Orion?

There's and bass solo at 06:35. It is distorted and easy to confuse with a guitar.

To confirm, this is a quote from Cliff himself in an old interview:

CLIFF: On this album it's the intro to a song called "Damage", done all on bass. It's about eight or 12 tracks of bass, a lot of harmonies and volume swells and effects and stuff. I would hesitate to call it a bass solo, it's more just an intro, but it is all bass. There's also a little bass solo in Orion, it's right next to a little guitar solo. No one will probably be able to tell that it's bass, but it is.

Q: That's cool. Is it in the first break?

CLIFF: Nah. It's, uh, probably about two-thirds of the way into the song.
